  • Live Bait

Just moved to Fort Washington, a stones throw from the Potomac, and I cannot find any live minnows to buy within a reasonable range. I was driving to Freds Outdoor, but their supplier has dried up. I have been watching you tube videos on how to use my EasyCatch fish trap to catch minnows in the wild. LOL. My first 4 hour foray was not good. Anyone that has any good tips, ideas, or locations to buy minnows for fishing I am open. I refuse to go to the pet store and buy goldfish, so no need to suggest that again.

You can get a long arm minnow net, throw a slice of white bread on the water and net them as they come to eat. Shallow water where you can see them makes it easier.

Just saw a guy on Fishing OC this morning. He had a minnow trap baited with dog food. Said let it soak couple hours or a day or so in any small creek with minnows and you are good to go.

If you’re looking to trap some near Ft Washington try Piscataway Creek.

You can put a piece of fish or bread in a WalMart two piece wire minnow trap ($7.99) and place it in the edge of the water (I like to find a grass bed in two feet or Less) for a few hours...the baited trap will be full of bull minnows

Walmart minnow trap baited with dog food has worked best for me.

Bullminnows galore at Homeport Farm launch beach. I wish I had my net today as you can just net them right at the edge of the water.
