Thanks John and Mark for your information about the Fat Sam and Little Dipper. I remember the Fat Sams as floaters.

      Tom,

That extra buoyancy is not a bad thing. With the weight of the hook a Fat Sam will suspend in the water column. I don't like weighted hooks, split shots or slip sinkers when I'm finesse fishing in ponds. I want a slow sink and a light bait so I can feel the bite more easily.

There's another 12 Fathoms product I use more often than Sam in such applications. It's called a Buzztail.

It's made from the same plastic as a Fat Sam but a little longer and has a different tail. I've caught many pond pickerel and bass with it.

Paddletails of various manufacturers all catch fish, they mimic minnows and small baitfish...I was a big fan of Bass Assassins and caught a bunch of fish with them, still use them as I have a large inventory...but lately I have jumped on the ZMan band wagon...the soft, extremely durable plastic has fantastic action at any speed...I have overcome its inherent slippery, easy to come off the jighead by using Deathgrip jigheads with original Gorillia glue. It is like welded to the head! Make no mistake-even ZMan swimbaits are not completely bluefish proof- had one completely bitten in two last trip...but they are more bite resistant than any other plastics I have used.

Zmans are tough to beat. I may have to readjust them on the jighead a little more often, but Ive literally had them last the entire season. Unless you get into some bluefish, the only way they are coming off is if you take them off. As for jigheads, Ive always had good luck with Hard Head Custom Baits shad heads.

My runner up would be a Capt Bert's Perch Pounder.
