Scott,
Some questions to ponder:
-Are you familiar with the area from Kitty Hawk to Ocracoke Island?
-Will you be fishing sound side or in the surf? Or both?
-Will you be yak fishing exclusively, or also wade fishing or surf fishing?
-What fish will you be targeting down there that time of year?
-Will you be using bait, or lures? And what type of each?
-Are you taking trolling gear, casting gear, jigging gear?
-Will you be using any guides?
-Do you have specific places in mind for your itinerary?
-Do you plan on getting to the OBX via rt. 13 on VA's Eastern Shore, using the bridge/tunnel? There are great fishing spots from Chincoteague to Cape Charles, including the Concrete Fleet at Kiptopeke.
These are questions I've asked myself, having fished in those waters for the better part of the last 35 years, and with even more frequency for the past 5 years. Google like a mad man for the next month - recon work will seriously pay off!
Good luck and tight lines!

To pile on to Jim's third bullet - you can't beat the Buxton area for all three: kayak, wade and surf fishing.
Not sure what it will be like this year with Covid, but you'll be just beating the mid/late Oct Red Drum contestants/crowds.
