    Absolutely right about the manufacturers marketing to the angler, not the fish.

    One of the most effective lures on the bay from October on is a stingsilver. For those of you not familiar, it's a 1-2 oz piece of metal with a hook on it. No eyes, colors, and very little action. But it catches the hell outta fish.

      Many of us old timers used Hopkins hammered stainless jigs for surf casting back in the early 70's Bluefish blitzes...long before the stingsilver...

        The Hopkins is a classic. I have found memories of doing the same thing as you, but in the 90's and 2000's with blues in the surf. One is always in my surf bag whenever I hit the beach.

        I often turn to the Hopkins shorty in the bay. A great peanut imitator. My only time ever fishing the surf in Sandbridge I tore up specks in the surf using a shorty.
