Red Fish tips I have learned.. particularlily as you head south...

I finally left the Maryland and Virginia Peninsulas and headed further south by early December...

As my first year of actively pursuing the species... I have picked up a few tips catching Redfish.

Stranger things...Back in the heyday of the red drum runs...November 5th was the day to fish Salvo, Waves, Rodanthe, and the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse region...we used fishinder rigs with big chunks of cut bait, and whole live crabs (If available)...A 40 pound drum was just "average"...

That guy is clever.

And you know what? His tips may actually work. It took me a while to catch my first redfish (AKA in the video as redneck fish.) But after multiple shutouts, I hooked my first one on a jig and paddletail. Then I caught them on a soft plastic under a Cajun Thunder float (the most work), a Zara Spook topwater lure, my own hand-tied perch spinner, and I've successfully sight-casted to them with flies (the most fun).

Reds are susceptible to multiple fishing techniques. That fellow in the video may not be joking. Perhaps I should have started with Budweiser, RC Cola and junk food as bait.
