  • Brood X

Just read that the 17 year cicada brood x are supposed to come late spring. May into June is what they are predicting. Should make for some fun fishing, specially top water. I hear bass really like them. Never fished when they were around but heard fish get really full off of them.

Driving through them in Pennsylvania about 12 years or so ago you could hear them hitting the vehicle. Slow creep you could hear them being run over. Fishing buddy of mine told me they were a delicacy. Don’t think I’ll fry one up but soaking one in fresh water on a 1/8th oz jig might look tasty for a slab crappy, hand size blue gill, or maybe in salt water for perch?

Anyone try using them for bait?

I'll decline a taste test for them too.

Also, you don't need to use them for bait.

Any topwater fly or lure that reasonably imitates their shape, size and color will work once they are out in force near the waters you fish.

A few folks recently submitted photos on this forum of their cicada imitations in anticipation of Brood X.
