I really like my Outback, but when I see a PA on the water, I get a bit of envy. Got yours yet, Matt? You going to trailer it?

Trailer will be the way of travel, but I haven't converted the utility trailer yet, so for pick up it will go on the roof.

i didn't expect the vids to be so informative, considering i already have a hobie. my 1st impression of mirage drive was that it felt a little sloshy when you started from zero. as compared to paddles where you can dig in and it feels meaty and powerful. then again, i've nver tried pedalling the way that hobie guy does. check out that foot speed.

imo, stability standing up is a major selling point for that PA. i think it becomes almost a different concept in that respect. i suspect it changes the user experience compared to smaller yaks almost as much as pedal v paddle does.

My Outback felt sloshy at first too. Then I installed the turbos and now it's just right and it can really move out.

Yeah, that tug-of-war gave me a better appreciation of the drive's capability.

My 2010 Outback already had Turbo Fins installed by the Army Officer I bought it from- I put the sail rudder on it and that is all the modifications necessary to upgrade it. The difference between paddling and peddling are immeasurable- the distance you can cover with the Mirage Drive is so much more than paddles it isn't funny. The Mirage Drive is cheating- big time- like putting a trolling motor on a yak. I know- I have a very good paddle yak- the OK Prowler. And I upgraded paddles so that I had a good, light-weight, synthetic paddle- made a difference, but can't compare to the Mirage Drive. When I tried to keep up with Moc in his Revolution at PLO during our meet and greet- I kept getting farther and farther behind- he was fishing while I was paddling and paddling and paddling to get a mile offshore in Cornfield Harbor when the tide and wind was in my face- he had two fish in the boat before I got my rod in the water.

Dude .................. I haven't seen any rules that say pedalling and motors is against any rules.

Sorry, but this fat ole guy seeks comfort and enjoyment and safety which is the rule for me and killing myself is not comfortable or enjoyable and cheating me out of my enjoyment.

Pedaling and motoring is not cheating it gives me distance, speed, enjoyment and safety.

From the music I thought it was an old 80's porn... then I saw the woman... LMAO!!! Thats a cool vid... I wonder if their patent will ever run out and allow other companies to start utilizing that technology, maybe bring the price down.

Are you guys still on this subject? LOL. Remember, to each their own. As of lately, I'm looking for a kayak that could outrun a power boat.

Well ........ the so called "purists" use depth finders, plastic boats, anchor trolleys, rod holders etc etc etc too ......... so they are no more of a purist than you and I. It's also very interesting the number of purists that come to the darkside when they see the light .......... every year .....

I'll call them purists when they start shaping whale bone and skinning seals to build their own .........

...... don't judge them and don't let them make you feel guilty ..........

We're all Yakin Bro's just enjoyin the sport and the comraderie ........ the only rule is that it floats your boat and makes you happy ..........

Carabunga Dude ........ Peace Out !!!!!
