  • Oysters

I'm going to CBBT next weekend boat fishing with some guys .......... I have a guy down there that gets me some really good oysters (at least they have been the last 3 years)

    I'll have to get the price but it's probably around $30 - $35/half bushel or $60/bushel ..........

I'm going to call him tomorrow but I usually need to give him an idea of how many I need. I'm ordering 2 bushels.

You can pay me when you pick them up probably at the swap .......

Oh ..... and these oysters will be alive and great out of water for 3 weeks or more as long as you leave them in an open container outdoors where air can circulate around them (like a bushel basket) out of the sun ........ not a refrigerator because it blows dry air that dries them out. I've picked them up just after Thanksgiving and they were still good on New Years day in previous years .........

Let me know I can probably bring back an additional 2-3 bushels

          Rick,
The oysters you picked up on the oceanside VA DelMarva were excellent- very flavorful with a salty twang. My wife and I roasted 3 doz. and ate them with a squirt of lime and black pepper. They were so good we fired up a second batch. The only thing that kept us from laying on a third batch was our desire to save some for another meal. Keep me posted on future opportunities to score these oysters.

          Thanks,

          Steve, Greenbelt

Thanks Steve ........ glad you liked em ...........

The guy that went down to Cherrystone with me wasn't going to get any ......... 1 night we had a beer at the campsite before going to dinner ....... I shucked a couple of them and he tried 1 ........... 2 dozen later he stopped ......... he went home with a bushel ........ this batch was even better than last years ...........

The sweetness of the oyster with the saltiness of the liquid is wonderful ......

not like the ones from the bay .....

Looks like I will have to get a bushel the next time that you are by there.

I'll check before I go down again .......... and let you guys know .......

the guy I know has his own oyster beds ........ last time I talked to him he said he couldn't go to dinner with us because he was working on an order that was really too big for him ....... he had to provide 100 bushels and 5 gallons of shucked for some big oyster roast around the 1st of Dec so was only able to get me 3 1/2 bushels ...... 1 went to Steve, 1 to Dale and I have 1 1/2 ...........

I only get them from him because he seems to have the best ones that I know of and he seems to know what he is doing .........

I could probably part with 1/2 bushel if somebody wants 1 .......... gotta pick em up in Balto though ........ $35 1/2 bushel
