  • Cya Next Year, Review 2011

Kayak fishing has quickly become an addiction for me. I have been fishing off a kayak since May 2011. Its been a long journey since Moc taught me what drifting was; Redfish12 taught me how to Jig; Toadfish opened my eyes to rod selection; Its been amazing. Attached are some of the pictures from this past few months and i cant wait for the journey to begin again next spring when i get back.

    Star fish
    Black Drum
    Tautog
    Red Drum

    Spot
    Croaker
    Rock
    Black Sea Bass
    Channel Cat
    Pig Fish
    Oystertoad
    Flounder
    Blue Fish
    White Perch
    Sand Perch
    Cownose Ray
    Dog Fish
    Small mouth bass
    Large Mouth Bass

You have certainly been a busy and effective fisherman this year. Congratulations on the long list of fish and many sizable fish.

The fish will be waiting for you when you return.

You sure had an awesome first season. Last year was my first season and I mostly dialed in white perch on the Severn and caught a few Stripers at the end of the year. This year was a vast improvement from last for me, so I can't even imagine what you will catch next year...
          Shark?...
          Cow Stripers?...
          Marlin?...

Big tautog (like the one pictured) are mostly cool/cold water species- you catch them around obstructions, wrecks and reefs (pilings, sunken barges, busted up bridge decks, rocks, etc.) They eat crabs and crustaceans. The best places are around the CBBT, Kiptopeake's concrete ships and offshore at the Triangle wrecks. You can catch them all winter long, if you are so a mind to fish- I have caught 12 pounders in February and March around the third Island of the CBBT.

The other thing about togs is the fact they are very good bait stealers- when you think you felt a bite but are not sure, you probably did-

It was my first year as well, caught striped bass, cownose ray, and croaker, for the first time in my life. I don't like water temps below 60s so I guess I'm done until late May 2012/June. I fished mostly mid may/bay bridge, will have to check out CBBT next year.
