  • Where can I get live eels?

Hey guys, can't make the M&G on the 10th, but I'm gonna try to go down to kipto this weekend to see if I can catch a big one by the ships.

I want to use Kayak Kevin's live eel technique explained here: http://kayakkevin.com/kiptohowto.html

Where can I buy live eels on my way down from the DC area?

    Thx!

Thanks, that's actually not too much out the way, especially if I get them the previous evening. Will they keep alive in the refrigerator?

Why not buy them down there? I know both Oceans East 2 and Long Bay Pointe Bait & Tackle carry them in abundance. Oceans opens at 4:30am and Long bay opens at 6:00am if you want to wait.

Good to know, thank you! I was hoping not to have to go over the bridge though.

Are you already on the eastern side? If so, Chris' bait and tackle carries them and they are only a few miles north of Kipto. Don't know their hours so I would call to confirm.

Do you really need eels? I'm thinking about using jig w/ plastic (bkd, mullet, etc), bucktail, and tube worms. Maybe use bait too (blue crab or bloodworms).

I am sure you don't "Have to" tufnik, but its a popular way to fish down there by kayakers and boats alike. I have some Hogy's I might try if the bite is on...

You can get eels from Angler's if you going VIA the Bay Bridge. They should stay overnight fine in some water... just ask the shop to fill up your bucket a little.

don't put in the fridge ....... that's dry air and they will die ...... just like oysters ........... you can put them on a rag on ice but leave the ice chest drain open .......

Thanks a lot guys. Chris's is a good option. They're open from 7am-5pm.

I do have to go via the BB, so yeah, Angler's is an option too, and they open earlier.

Fish reports from the Chris's web site:

Rockfish have showed up in good numbers at the CBBT Hi Rise, Have gotten good reports of fish to 50lbs. The bite has been during the outgoing tides in the evening wotking the bridge pilings. Daytime fishing for schoolies has been good also using Bass Assassins on 3/4 to 1 oz jig heads. Work around pilings and tunnel islands for good numbers of catch and release sized fish.

                        Hope to see you soon.

Big rockfish have been weighed to 49lbs. water temps are getting right now. more should be to the scales as more fish make their way into the bay. Check out the pics on our facebook page. plenty of eels in stock now. where are you now that the fish are here?

                          VA Striper regulations

I'm gonna pee in my pants if I catch a big one. Do you guys keep 34+ size fish or let 'em go? That's a lot of fish to eat.

Just looking for a Photo Op ............ the little ones taste good not the big ones .......... kill a biggun and you kill a million potential stripers

Somehow the Va boys just don't seem to get it ........ they kill all the bigguns and complain that the creel limits are too low .........

Oh .... and don't think that would be pee in your pants ......
