  • Upcoming expos and seminars...what's on your calendar?

'Tis the season for expos and seminars of all sorts. What's on your radar this season? The next few months should be jam-packed with weekend activities to keep you entertained while the water is freeze-your-butt-off cold.

Went to the Pasadena show last year, and prob go again this year. They had A+ BBQ.

Any good seminars you're looking forward to?

I recently got into rod building and have been drooling over the International Custom Rod Building Expo. Too bad it's in the middle of North Carolina.

Been there 2 years ago ........ not a bad show but it's not as great as Tom Kirkman says it is .......... some good deals there especially from Swampland ......... seminars are great but he doesn't record them ......... the hall is smaller than the Timonium show which is the smallest actual show we have up here.

I have wanted to head down to the rod building expo for years but I never can get the cards to fall right for the trip. So many experts all together in one location and they have by far the best seminars during the event.

I know the trip would be expensive because I would leave there with 5 new blanks and components for more rods I won’t fish. I already have a stack in the corner getting dusty.

Noooooo .......... it would definitely be more than 5 blanks ........... I got some good ones for as cheap as $10 ........... and some nice saltwater rods for $15 w/eva grips and buttcaps already on ............ and a bunch of other stuff ......... need a big SUV to handle people and the blanks etc ....... of a pu truck w/supercrew .......

As you said, you get to meet the experts and pick their brains ....... and you get to actually see and feel the blanks etc before you buy so you can get a better idea of what is out there. The money and time spent down there will save you alot of money in the long run because you will know what to by and who you are buying it from.

Maybe we should get a group together to go. Sharing gas and room expenses make it alot cheaper. @ $100 - $200 max gas food and lodging each for 3

I am heading down to the rod expo in High Point, NC. 2/25-2/26 There is a big fishing/boat show over in Greensboro, NC (more boat than fishing). Cory Ruth has done some seminars ther in the past. I haven't heard back from him yet, to see if he will be there this year.

Last year was my first time at the rod expo. I was overwhelmed to say the least. I had never built a rod but had thought about it for a long time. I sat in on several seminars and walked around like a kid in a candy store. I bought some stuff from Mudhole and was lucky enough to win a power wrapper in thier raffle.

I am leaving Saturday morning the 25th for the expo and will head home Sunday after the show is over. I may run over to Greensboro but don't know yet.

I enjoy the Tri-State Marine fishing flea market. This year it will be held on Feb 4 in Deale. My wife and I are splitting a table. She is selling her prize-winning chocolate chip cookies (what a great breakfast), and I will have some old and new tackle to sell at yard sale prices.

If anyone is planning on going to the NC Show, Please contact me, I would like someone to pick-up something for me. I can give you the cash in advance if you like.

                  J. A. Veil, I hope you and your wife would come and support the MKF Flea Mkt as well, I don't mind someone selling Cookies. If you have any stuff left over from the Deal show, sell some at our Flea Mkt. Tables are only $10. It's at the Lake Shore Fire Hall at 4498 Mountain Rd in Pasadena. Do you have a contact or website for that as well??
                  Thanks,
                  Tom

                    Tom -

I don't know what else we will have going on that weekend. I hope to attend at least as a visitor. We cannot commit this far in advance about a table.

Last year she inquired about selling her cookies at another fishing flea market held at a VFW hall. The organizer told her she could not sell any food because it would compete against the hall's own efforts to sell food. Before I even mention it to her, I would want to have that issue clarified. It is not an issue at the Tri-State show since the dealer sells boats, not food.

Not an issue with us either. She can sell whatever baked goods she likes. The Ladies Auxilliary will be selling food throughout the day and there will be a Pit Beef, ham and Turkey sale out front of the station but again, you can sell whatever you like. It is a Fishing Flea market but as far as I'm concerned you can sell whatever you like. I just clarified it with my wife, (shes in charge of the hall rental). Hope to see you there with a table...

I will be going to the rod building show. My parents live 45 minutes from there so I will be staying with them (free good food and place to stay, gotta love it). I know they wouldn't mind another guest or 2 if anyone wants to come along. They also have 2 small stocked ponds we can fish on their farm. Some of the bass are pretty big in them.
