  • Anyone interested in a Kayak Jamboree for the Susquehanna Catch and Release Season?

I'm trying to see if there will be any interest in attending a Kayak Jamboree this spring to fish the Susquehanna Flats. I'm looking to get something together for Mid-April. The way this weather has been, and hoping it remains this way through the remainder of the season, could make for a really good spring catch and release season here. The lack/small amount of snowfall, and hopes for a fairly dry spring should keep the spill gates from being opened en mass and for far shorter periods of time. What's this mean, it means far better conditions on the flats for the big girls to come up to and spawn, and hang around a little. All this could add up to some really great fishing with artificials on top and on the troll.

I have a camp ground in mind near Perryville Maryland that has water access on the North East River, which is an in bounds area, as well as being real close to several other good launches on the Upper Flats.

I may try and set up with a charitable organization to help raise a little cash for them, I'm waiting on a call back on that now.

With that said, what are you thoughts? I'm willing to put all the effort into this and try and get up an early season get together for us all. Either way, I'm going to be fishing the Flats and encouraging all who have never fished here to come give it a try.

I have a poll running in the Kayak Forum at Stripers Online, please check it out.

    Thanks!

Depending upon the date, I'd like to chase some big spring stripers in my yak. Just need to know the date so I can check schedule.

Wow, great response here so far!

Mike, it may have to be the weekend of the 12th, but I may also try for the 27th. I'm on call at work the week of the 20th, and that wouldn't be cool to set something up and not show!

I'll keep you guys posted on the progress, going to try and keep it centralized over at SOL, only because of my editing authority there, but will C/P here.

Never fished up there on the Susie Q...I have caught a lot of stripers....and it is in the very same time window I had planned to bang away at flounder on the eastern shore- and I have spent a lot of money preparing specifically for flounder fishing this year- new bait tank, new fishing rods/reels, etc. I really want to catch a citation doormat, but...this sounds like a real blast and a chance to meet up a lot of the folks on the forum...humm

OK, I'm going to put the date of the Jamboree in stone, April 12th through the 15th.

I'm looking into setting things up at Susquehanna State Park, which can be found here....http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclan...usquehanna.asp. I'm going to call the park tomorrow and ask a few questions about setting up base camp there.

They have cabins, tent and RV sites, are located on the Susquehanna River at Lapidum, which is the northernmost boundary of the C&R area. Check the site out for rates.

I don't know if I'm going to try and tie this with any charity fund raising at this time, I've been trying to get approval with HOW, but things are moving slow. Maybe next year. So for now, I'm going to get some cost together on catering and might have to pay for a pavilion at the campground so we can keep it under one roof. I'm going to talk to a couple friends who do Pig Roast and see what we can come up with for a dinner for Saturday night.

More to come, so stay tuned.....

I'm moving forward with info gathering as well as a charity. I've signed an agreement with Heroes On The Water and am in contact with several sponsors now as well as the campground. I will be updating this by tomorrow with a lot more info.

                              More to come!
