i do think they can make a difference. how much? no idea. if you look at nature, many fish, bugs, etc have a dot of sorts somewhere other than the head of the body as camouflage. i think the idea is to make a predator think its tail is really its head, i guess gambling that non head woulds are more able to heal. IF that is true, then fish can see and know what eyes are

Some of my latest creations. All with EYES, big small, red and silver. My bucktails kinda suck, but maybe they'll work.

Wow those are very colorful!! Ive always stayed more towards solid colors, or maybe two tone when it comes to the hair on bucktails/parachutes, but I like your creativity. Definitely try some white hiar IMO maybe with some black on the top quarter. Also when your wrapping the hair first wrap it with the ends pointing towards the front of the jighead then fold it over the thread wraps, and wrap again with the ends towards the hook, this helps hold the hair in place.

Thanks for the tips!! Makes sense... I don't expect these to last very long because of the way I wrapped the hairs Will try your method.

I think the bucktails look fine. What don't you like about them? If the bucktail is uneven around the hook, a rotary vice really helps with material placement.

Yeah, the hairs are uneven, and I'm not sure they'll hold very long.

I almost got a rotary vice the other day but then I realized I didn't need yet another piece of fishing paraphernalia

The fish won't care! They look good!

I use a super cheap vise and it works fine. I tie mine with the hair on top, a few half hitches, flip it on the vice and hair on top again. Then when I have about 5 tied I finish with a small batch of 5 min epoxy. So much for doing a lot of tying this winter! It's already over!
                            Used to fish more.

First you'll get a couple of cheap ones and then you'll give up and buy a Renzetti .........
