Well I did it, I have taken the initial steps to start a Hero's on the Water Chapter here in Maryland. For those of you not familiar with this group, aside from our swap meet benifit, they basically take Vets out on the water for a day of Kayak Fishing. This is the only group that I am aware of that its sole purpose is to simply take a vet out for a day KAYAK FISHING. This is where I hope I can count on members of this group and others. I may be calling on some of you in the not too distant future. Especially those of you with an extra Yak and the nerves to help me take this on. Some of these vets may have some physical impetiments and some not. Some of them may have much deeper scars that a day on the water will help to heal. I suspect that most of them will have no fishing gear what so ever. For that I will count on Generous donations from area shops and civilians alike. I will also need help on the Adminastrative end of things. I do not have a degree in business, but I do in Structural Engineering. Not much use for what I've undertaken. I do have one volunteer in the friend of Naysayer. I will need several more. Any takers??? I've sent in the paperwork to start up the chapter. It doesn't require a large start up fund. I know that there are a few of you on here that are or were involved with other groups like this that take care of our guys and ladies coming back from war that need to decompress or for Rehabilitaion purposes. I know On The Fly is volunteering with similar group that helps rehabilitate vets coming back by teaching Fly Tying and Fly Fishing. Correct me if I'm wrong, and my appologies Harry. As a Marine Corp Vet, and the father of an active duty Soldier serving in the Army, I feel as though this is what I'm destined to do!! Maybe this is why On The Fly got me into Kayak Fishing. I know I can count on you guys to help...The only promise I can make to those of you willing to help, is that you will not be rewarded with money or accolades, but simply a good feeling that you did the right thing by helping our guys that have given so much for our freedoms that we all enjoy each and every time we go out and do what we love to do, Just Fish!!!

I've got an extra yak, pfd, paddle, fishing gear, etc., so I'd be happy to take someone out. There are a lot of places around St. Mary's County where fish can be found without having to paddle too far, and I can usually find some place that is sheltered regardless of the wind. I don't know much about helping someone with disabilities, though, but we can probably work something out if there are a couple of us. Does the chapter provide the fishing licenses?Yellow Hobie Revo Rube Goldberg

You have my support as need up here in Cecil County.
Having fun getting this Jamboree together, and I will be raising funds for HOW. I need to get in touch with Jim and see if there is a way we can get in touch with anyone at Perry Point.
I'll be posting more info in a day or two, trying to get some letters out to sponsors!
Congrats!

Thank You for stepping up. As far as helping people with disabilities, we will work through that TOGETHER. We will go out as a group and work through all adversities as a group. I believe that the soldiers' Occupational Therapist will tell them what they should or shouldn't do. The individual soldier will decide if they can or can't handle a yak or a fishing pole. These folks aren't being made to particapate in the function or event. They choose too. At least thats the way I understand it. I may be wrong but I doubt it. I am making a list of members with gear and will go from that list. As far as the license, I'm not sure but I think being an active duty soldier, no license is needed, But I will check on that. Thanks again,

I'm starting a list of people and what gear is available. Mullet Miller, I will be back in touch with you in the next couple of days. I'm sorry I had to cut off the convo so abruptly. Thanks again to all that have stepped up to the plate!!!!
The approval process is full of paperwork and as ussual it doesn't happen overnight. I am shooting for our first outing early or mid summer. More to follow.

I don't have an extra kayak but I do have a larger boat. My offer would be fishing for croaker, blues or rock in the mid-bay area.
Not what you're looking for exactly but what I can offer.Chip
