Hi everyone, first post and planning to buy a fishing kayak in the next few weeks. I love being around the water but with the price of gas predicted to hit $5/gal this summer, I may not get the stink pot out much. I grew up on the Ohio River and fished a lot when I was younger. I figure if I buy a new toy I will make time to enjoy it.

I like the idea of a peddle kayak and I like sailing so I am thinking about a Hobie Outback. I like the Revo but think the Outback will be more stable for fly fishing and using the sail.

Welcome onboard! We will have a table at Bass Pro Shop today, so come and say hi! ou are correct on the Outback and the Revo. I have a Revo and it is a great all around boat, that cuts through the water a little better than the Outback. But if your requirement is to stand and fly fish, then the Outback would be my pick since it is wider than the Revo, which will make it less tippi. Both are great boats, it just depends on how you want to use them. If money was no object, I would have both.

Welcome Greg. Both are great yaks. I agree with MOC, if you want to stand go with the Outback. Its a little more stable.

When the water is cold do you guys were waders or are the kayaks dry enough that you don’t freeze your butt off?

If you're taking the kayak out, assume you're going to get wet, especially at the launch. I wear waders as well as a Frogg Toggs dry top which also blocks the wind pretty well.

I have the Outback and sail kit as well, including the amas. I use it to sail only seldom because if I'm out, I want to be fishing Welcome aboard.
