  • Prepping a Metal Lure

Couldn't find some silver buddies at the swap meet yesterday, so I bought a couple of these for a dollar each.

Anyone know about the lure action with each of the three holes on top? Seems like you can get different actions with the hole and hooks used.

That's a #4 treble. Does that seem about right? Maybe a smaller #5 front and rear? Use #4 up front and #5 on the rear?

How about the small metal? Use a #3?

I prefer using a single hook though. Use #2 j-hook? Do you think it'll still jig/catch OK?

I've caught a bunch on those things .......... I only use 1 hook in back .......

I use the center hole for jigging and the front for trolling/casting ...... they catch .....

      With a treble?

I suppose I could try a j-hook and see what happens.

You can use either 1 ......... mine have trebles but a single will work

That's good to know. I hate dealing with trebles and have thought about modifying my jigging blades, but I wasn't sure if they would still work.

Which way should the j-hook face? Forward? Backward? Sideways!?!?

To make the hook face forward or backward, I guess you use two split rings. Or should we use one split ring and twist the hook's eyelet 90 degrees?

You could use something like this:

The only downside to these hooks is that they have a long shank, but they've worked well on the poppers I've used them on.
