Planers/Dipsy Divers

just wondering if anyone has any experience with dipsy divers or similar products?

are these heavy to use, get out of control, tangle etc?

I was curious about these types of items as well. I posted earlier in the week about jet divers, which are similar but they float when you stop. I haven't used either yet but a few folks have

I plan on using two dipsy divers (one for each side), and my regular planer for straight behind my yak when I troll this spring.

I've used a "regular" diving planers from boats. Not the round one you highlighted. Like these from Seastriker: http://www.seastriker.com/ss_files/planers.htm

They work but I've not used them on the kayak. They get messed up if you go too fast so you have to strike a balance with speed. Seastrike has a pretty good article on how to work them. Starting on page 7:

On my Hobie Outback- fishing in 80 feet of water in the shipping channel off Piney Point, these divers work fine at the trolling speeds we go in kayaks- no problems, whatsoever-

Have several ....... used once w/no problems in a boat ........ mainstay of the Great Lakes and have been around for a long time ....... shouldn't be any problem except from other boaters hooking your line if they get too close ......

How far to the sides, or at what angle, do these guys run?
