  • Has anyone launched at Quiet Waters SP?

I have a free pass to the park and I read in a brochure that you can launch from the dock where they rent kayaks. Has anyone done this before?

I have rented kayaks from them over the years but seem to recall the path to the actual dock being rather steep. Also, how do you get it out of the water; side handle?

    Regards,
    John

Never launched but I've been there many times. The dock is roughly a quarter mile from the lot.

I remember the walk from the lot, I just can't remember the dock area. Oh well, we are having an Easter picnic there tomorrow so I'll take a hike and scope it out.

I have. I launched from a spot off the path. It's a long haul from the parking lot, and there's at least one hill involved. I went during the weekend in the summer, and the river was packed. It was like a block party with boats, with people visiting between boats using yaks or dinghies or just swimming. The scenery was awesome , but it was a little too crowded for me. I was with some friends who rented yaks, and I can't remember if I fished or not. If I were going to fish, I would opt for Spa Creek, Weems Creek, or Jonas Green. Less of a hassle to launch and fewer people around.

I was thinking that it was a perfect spot to put in when going to fish the Thomas Point Shoal. Of course if I'm going to get worn out on the portage, I may have to re think my strategy.
