  • Ocean City 4/20-4/21

Im heading to Ocean City next week on thursday to Turkey hunt with a friend on friday (4/20) and saturday (4/21) morning. I'll be bringing my kayak too, so after turkey hunting, I'll be looking to fish. I think my primary targets will be flounder and tautog. Anybody interested in meeting up to fish in OC next weekend? I know of a couple of pretty good spots to launch, but not so much on good spots to fish, but I have a few ideas...

Sounds like people did pretty well on the flounder for opening weekend:

With warm temps this week it should only get better.

I got more gulp swimming mullets and bucktails from basspro yesterday and some squid from Lotte today, I'm ready to go catch some OC flounder this weekend...
                Anyone else?

I really wish I could make it. But I got to help out at BYB! Good Luck and hopefully you'll get some keepers and some KW pts. I think its only 15" for KW flounder.

I always had luck drifting the east channel, south of the 50 bridge right in front of the White Marlin Marina!! No keepers for me there but lots of fish, did see a few caught there though. Also casting and jigging under the 50 bridge was very productive last summer.

If you were doing Sunday, I may be able to swing a trip there. I'm hanging around MD (e.g., Bay Bridge) because trophy season starts Saturday. Anyway, I heard good flounder bites can be had in the flats north of Thorfare. Planning to go south to the Airport end? Flounder caught there too.

I was looking for wrecks or reefs within a few miles of shore to target togs and flounder. Can't find any. Maybe someone knows of any so I can plan a trip.

                      Anyway, good luck!

Unfortunately, I'll only be there friday and saturday. Good luck on the trophy striper! I believe the inshore tog are caught around 2-4 st bulkhead and the 50 bridge as well as the oceanic pier. I think the wreck/reef fishing out of OC is several miles out

Went out last night with jkrahl. Didnt have any luck. We were limited on time and launched from the isle of wight. Fished the 90 bridge area instead of going all the way to the thorofare/dog island. Ended up with about 8 crabs and a skate. Bad slimey grass everywhere. The water was a little cloudy also. I think Ive heard the grass called cow slime. Real pain in the rear. On the paddle in I spooked what was likely a large rockfish in the shallows, near the ramp. Made a few casts in desperation, but I was already busted.

Shady, we'll be out Saturday morning till around 12 at the thorofare. When you get done chasing the gobs around and if the togs arent cooperating, come join us.

Hmm, thats not good news, what were you using? Maybe I should bring some crab traps...
With the grass issue, maybe you need to jig just off the bottom? How I do friday will dictate what I do saturday. I might just come back out near 90 and the thorofare, but hopefully I'll see you on the water.

I wouldn't put too much stock into out report. I think we were flat out in the wrong spot. No change in depth and the current working against the wind make a drift near impossible for the first hour. The grass seems to be suspended in the water. So thick at times it showed up on the FF. Once your drift into it, it slides down your line onto the jig. Pretty annoying, but it wasn't as bad in depper water.

We were using spro chartrause 1 oz. jigs with GULP! and squid. On saturday, Ill have minnows. Hope to see you out there too. Ill be in an Olive Outback, probably dodging boats.
