  • 2012 Goals

The 2012 fishing season is well under way at this point. I thought this would be a good time to start a thread that looks at each persons goals for the year. I personally get more enjoyment out of fishing if I set my sights on something and accomplish it. My list is short. Being this is my first spring fishing from the yak, I wanted to keep it simple. For others who have "met" all their goals..well, you need more challenging goals

    1. Catch a redfish from the yak (bull or puppy, don't care).
    2. Catch 3 citation fish (I've already got the striper...two more to go).

Feel free to hold me accountable on Dec. 31st. I look forward to reading everyone's.

I have been wanting to get 5 citations from 5 species for along time.

So far this year i have been striking out..

12.5" white perch this last weekend..

Several 14.5" Black crappie this spring...

Just keep chipping away until i finally get some BIG fish.

More trolling. I really wanna put the kayak thru its paces, especially having done my off-season upgrades & gear purchases. Also looking forward to doing more crabbing since I started late last season.

Catching a citation anything is a long-running goal for me. I figure pickerel, spot, white perch, and croaker are the most likely bets for me. I've been within
1/2" for each one except spot.

            Catch a snakehead.

Break the 26" mark for striped bass.

ILV2FSH--There are some good spots for topwater striper fishing around St. Mary's County if you can't find anything closer to home. I'm hoping the action this year will be better than it was last year.

My only goal when I fish in the Chesapeake is to catch lunch or dinner. I usually target, in the order of tastiness, Perch, Croaker, @20 inch Rockfish.

That's not to say I don't mind a good fight now and then, I just turn 'em lose for the next guy.

              Regards,

John----perch more tasty than croaker??? ur crazy.

For me, one real goal......SPECS. 20= inch flounder would be nice too, but speckled trout have me confounded. At least Maryland specs.

Just go out and have a good time- a snakehead catch is something I want to do- been a bunch of years since I have caught a big citation flounder, but not much I haven't caught...I have had a full, active fishing life and now that I am a "senior" fisherman there isn't much I haven't done- doing it out of a kayak is a little more challenging than from a boat or surf casting. 2012 looks to be another opportunity to share the waters with my many MKF friends.

I posted this in an earlier thread this year:

                      2012 goals on the yak

                      Striper over 30"
                      Flounder over 20"
                      Bluecat over 20lbs
                      Any size Snakehead
                      Keeper Speck
                      Any size Redfish
                      Keeper Sheepshead
                      Tautog over 20"
                      Atleast one fish each month

So far I'm still on track for the last goal. I've been trying hard for a big blue cat but my biggest is only 9lbs so far. Fishing for flounder for the first time of the year this weekend...

To catch a fish bigger than my previous PB in as many species as possible. Got 3 yak citations last year, so I would like to add to that but you can't always control what bites the hook.

I would like whatever new species as well. It's fun catching stuff you've never caught before.
