    Conventional or Spinning Reel?

Pros and cons of both. Id say most of the fishing would occur in the bay for species such as flounder, rockfish, blues, specks, reds, tog. Mostly artificial and lures.

    What are your thoughts?

flounder and bottom jigging I like the casting with at flipping switch because you can just push the button and freespool to the bottom when the depth changes ..........

    Bait/livelining/chum ........ baitrunner spinning reels ........

Topwater I like spinning and sometimes casting ...... depends on the lure

The more I fish with a conventional the more I like it. Especially for casting plastics, jigs, etc.

PROS - Great distance on cast, they sit above the rod to it is out of the way, easy to adjust depth while trolling, more sensitive to a light bite because you can palm the reel

CONS - I am not as accurate with a conventional, harder to cast light weight jigs and plastics.

If you do a search, you'll see many posts on this topic.

        Anyway, here's my story.

Bottomline. Unless you try it, you won't really "feel" the pros. I don't think you can beat the BC for yak fishing, even though I've used spinners for over 40 years.

Light lures 1/2 ounce or below - spinner

          Everything else - conventional

That's how I roll. However, if it's windy I'm using a spinner. I usually have at least one of each with me on the yak. For plugging and top water I also favor spinner. I don't do that much of it though, mostly jig or troll
          Used to fish more.
