Fishing the Mid Bay Saturday

I will be fishing the Lower Potomac portion of the Bay Saturday morning in lieu of going up to the Susky Flats for trophy stripers. Looking to troll for the big cows down off Piney Point and the north side of the mouth of the St. Mary's River channel- there have been reports of big schools of bait in the area, so where there is bait....

Weatherman is saying we will have a window of opportunity until afternoon- I plan to get in the water at first light and fish until the weather runs me off or until I catch my trophy-

I think it might be safer on the flats Saturday in a kayak.

I'm afraid to go out in my 28 footer in the main bay on opening weekend....lol

I went to PLO today. Hit the water at 7:15 hrs. Went past the point and beyond the platform. Wx was surprisingly good. Only 1 foot chops with tame rolling swells. Mostly blue sky and sunny in the am. Wind was 5-8 mph. Wind and chops picked up a little about 2 pm, but still good to fish. A few boats were out. Among the nicer days to fish there. Report to come.

I went out and so did dozens of power boats from Piney Point- the parking lot at the launch was completely full and people parked their trucks and boat trailers up and down the street next to it- I have been there four times and have never see the big parking lot full before- anyway I launched and it wasn't too bad, although it was breezy and choppy- I trolled a stretch 25 red and white and a bunker XR14 Xrap most of the day- this combo was what I caught my Piney Point stripers on last December- 27 and 29 inch fish- Not today- I put down a planer with a five inch Berkley sand eel and a 1/4 oz. white buck tail dressed with a gulp curly tail tied about a foot apart- and trolled three rods most of the day on a fifteen mile outing (according to my GPS)- I trolled the area with the boats in the 50-60 and 80 foot channel- I trolled the thirty foot areas with Bill and later went to 20 and 15 foot looking for fish- we found large schools of bait in the 30 foot waters but I was skunked yesterday- did not get a hit on anything- frustrating day, but still a great day on the water- you can't catch them every trip- and I tried a lot of different combos trolling- the six inch Chartreuse swim shads- Spros bucktail with a four inch Gulp shad- you name it I pulled it- But I always kept the stretch 25 in the water- I have caught too many big rockfish on that lure not to trust it-

You certainly had a good trolling set on the yak. And 15 miles? I would have thought you would nail a cow. But it is frustrating, especially when the boats get the big ones and you don't. Makes you think why can't a yaker get one.

I think you're the only one using a planer off a yak. You'll have show us how it's done. Meanwhile, I have an alabama rig I'll try on my next outing.

Well I was out with a friend on his boat on Saturday and we trolled from The mouth of White Hall Bay to Bloody Point back up to the bridge and back and never got a single hit. We saw plenty of fish on the finder but could not get them to take anything.

Yeah, it was spotty- some caught fish but most did not- and the ones they caught were nice, fat fish- the Bay was crowded with lots of boat traffic- I had a dozen or so boats around me most of the day- next time... I carry meat with me- I'll troll a while then it is time to put the meat over the side-
