  • One fish away from a skunk

I got out for a little tidal creek fishing near Annapolis today.
in an hour and a half, I caught one White Perch, and nothing else, before the heat, and lack of shade chased me off.
It just reinforces what has been a dismal fishing season this Summer.

I think the word got out that the guy who makes the Bignose spinners was in town. Too many perch have fallen prey to those lures over the years. They revolted and chose not to bite today.

But don't get discouraged -- I used a red and yellow Bignose spinner to catch a perch and a 20" rockfish in Eastern Bay this morning. The fish there did not get the word yet.

Sorry you had a sucky trip. I have had better success with perch this year in the main stem of rivers and even the mouths of rivers where they meet the bay. Creeks and areas further up river have not produced much for me. I've talked with others who have had similar experiences.

That's funny since you are probably on a first name basis with most of the Perch and many of the pickerel in the Severn.
The one's you really like, you give "costume jewelry" to by breaking off the spinner jig on. Their friends see that and don't want any part of them after that!

Stu- At least you made it onto the water, whenever this heat breaks maybe they will be more interested in your lures!

            You are so right!
Since being diagnosed with RA, my fishing opportunities have been few and far between. I appreciate them, even when the catching is poor.

While I see someone else has said it, AT LEAST you got out there on the water! The last time I was on the water I didn't get to do any fishing. My wife bought her a kayak and had the bright idea to go to the lake as a family on kayaks. Needless to say our nine year old was scared to death in a yak by herself, and ended up on the back on my Bonafide SS127.....
