  • Shallow Water, Light Tackle fishing

I will be speaking to the Essex Middle River fishing club on Tuesday April 18. The talk covers how I fish from my kayak in shallow water using light tackle. Over the years I have narrowed my focus to fishing primarily in tidal water less than 5 feet deep. The talk describes the types of rods, reels, line, leader, knots, and lures I use. It also reviews the fishing methods I use, including casting and retrieving lures, light tackle trolling, shallow water jigging (bottom bouncing), and occasionally bait fishing. The presentation includes numerous photos of the fish I caught and the gear I used to catch them.

The meeting will be held at FOP Lodge 34, 730 Wampler Rd, Middle River, MD at 7:30 pm. Club meetings are open to any interested persons.

That's great. I would love to see other kayak anglers in the audience.

        John,

If I could attend tonight, I would. I learn something from you every time we fish together.

There have been a few new members to the site that have introduced themselves to the forum in recent months. For what it is worth, I encourage them to attend. A few years ago, I was still dunking live bait on bottom rigs and catching nothing that couldn't be caught from shore. Things have improved dramatically since then, and I still have a long way to go.

Anyone seeking to up their game, learn new techniques, meet other anglers...this is a perfect opportunity.

Just two more weeks until the striper closure is over and what I hope will be a memorable May of fishing.
