    Great looking Baits...

I have been talking myself out of plug making for the last several years. I don’t know how many times I have had an internet cart full of wood blanks, Airbrush equipment, etc...., just to clear it out before making the purchase.

I just made the plunge into the world of soft plastics. I’m sitting here looking at 1 gallon of plastisol, 6 color dyes, glitter, two containers of plaster of Paris, a quart of fiberglass resin, some clay and wood framing and wondering where all my money goes…

I think a new sub form for rod and lure building would be a nice place for members to post there work and ideas. We have several post floating around the drydock area but they get lost after several weeks.

I just went down to see if they needed another coat of nail polish or now and the wife was doing laundry and said "Do you really need that many" I was like, wow, that's a lot?

Nice looking lures there Rob. I used to make spinners for steelhead but now I only tie flies. Those Ultraminnows would be great for flounder jigging.

I also would be interested in seeing a dedicated DIY section on the forum.

How did you get Pewter on the hook and how did you shape the resin for the plastic keeper?

Another focus I think is important on lure making, Lure recipe's. I brought this up on Stripers, but no one seemed to care, or want to share. I remember from beer making once I made something it was best to keep detailed records. If it worked great, make more copies later from the direction. If not, alter what you did the first time to compensate for the bad parts.

Lure Recipe sheets are the way to document everything you did. On the bottom are spooks made from 7/8" round stock. I used Poplar, but should have used cedar or pine. I use a belt sander and don't like using pine as it gums up the sander belt. And my first try at the SportyMan Spook. I just set the weight and glued and filled with wood putty. I re-dipped them in sealer as the weight hole hit the though wire line and I V'd the weights on top to let the wire pass. Now I now why they sell those belly weights with a pass though hole.

........ Joshin ya ........ just bought a bunch of them ........ tryin to learn what he used to make them.

However, pewter on the hook isn't hard ....... it's just tin and lead. You just make a mold and pour. Then you put it in a bigger mold and pour the resin in that mold over the pewter. I just need to find what resin they used and the mold release. These looked so good I couldn't resist ......... got 260 of them so I've got plenty for sale when they come in. Should be excellent for the specks over the grass beds because of the light weight and slow fall rate .....
