  • Homeport Farm Park email AGAINST a rowing center by Tuesday 8/13/24 6 pm

    Hello all,

Once again County Executive Steuart Pittman and the Department of Recreation and Parks want to put private rowing clubs in Homeport Farm Park, a public county park. This is the fourth time in 15 years that the county has tried to put a publicly funded multi million dollar rowing center for two private clubs in Homeport Farm Park, despite the deed restrictions that stopped it the first three times.

Email County Executive Pittman HERE ==> homeport-farms@aacounty.org by Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 6 pm and tell him NOT to put a rowing center in Homeport Farm Park! Tell him what Homeport means to you, tell him how you've used Homeport, tell him not to turn our public Homeport Farm Park over to private clubs! Remember to include your full name and street address so he knows that you are a real person. You can also use the comment link HERE ==> https://www.aacounty.org/locations/homeport-farm-park

A rowing center will dominate this small 25 acre passive park, sooner than later squeezing out general public water access and the other low impact activities - dog walking, bird watching, jogging - that people enjoy in Homeport. In 2022 Rec & Parks did a $25,000 feasibility study for a rowing center for two private clubs in Homeport Farm Park and snuck $3 million for a rowing center in Homeport through the the public boat ramp account - and that $3 million is just the first installment for a $25 million publicly funded rowing center.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! IF you live in Anne Arundel County, look up your County Councilperson HERE ==> https://www.aacounty.org/county-coun...ncil-districts and forward your Homeport email to your Councilmember with a sentence or two asking them not to put a rowing center in Homeport Farm Park. Make your email work a little harder!

BUT WAIT, THERE'S A LITTLE MORE! Spread the word! Ask others to email the County Executive Pittman homeport-farms@aacounty.org against a rowing center in Homeport Farm Park and tell them how to email him. REMEMBER the deadline is Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 6 pm!

WE THE PEOPLE own Homeport Farm Park! Keep Homeport Farm Park open to the general public that owns it!

Editorial against turning Homeport Farm Park into a multi million dollar taxpayer funded rowing center for two private clubs:

Please take a minute and email homeport-farms@aacounty.org and tell County Executive Steuart PIttman NOT to turn Homeport Farm Park into a rowing center for two private clubs. If you live in Anne Arundel County please look up your county councilmember here https://www.aacounty.org/county-coun...ncil-districts and forward your email to him or her. Rec & Parks snuck the first $3 million installment through the public boat ramp account in 2022 and the council needs to be on the lookout for the next $8 million installment.

    Thanks

    Lisa
Homeport Farm Park is caught in the crosshairs of a county executive that believes the privileged few should have pieces of public parks, while the masses are to stay quiet and just accept it. This…

Although "(a) 2016 study authored by RowAmerica and USRowing obtained by the Capital Gazette said that Homeport Farm Park was not a viable site for a rowing club facility.", the county is still trying to put a rowing center for private clubs in Homeport Farm Park.

Email County Executive Pittman HERE ==> homeport-farms@aacounty.org by Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at 6 pm and tell him NOT to put a rowing center for two private clubs in Homeport Farm Park!

This is a multi million dollar publicly funded rowing center for two private clubs in a public county park.
The prospect of a rowing club for young people at Homeport Farm Park in Edgewater is raising concerns from neighbors worried about the potential environmental impact

Woo boy, it's quiet around here. Hope everyone is out on the water.

LAST CHANCE to send in your comments telling the county not to turn Homeport Farm Park into a publicly funded multimillion dollar rowing center for private clubs!

I keep feeling like the boy who cried wolf, but Rec & Parks did a stealth $25,000 feasibility study in 2022 for a rowing center in Homeport Farm Park AND snuck $3.345 million for the first phase of a rowing center through the FY23 public boat ramp account. So Rec & Parks has a plan and money for a rowing center in Homeport Farm Park in hand.

        Thanks
