Reciprocal License Agreement between Virginia and Maryland

I read this on striper247.com: "A reciprocal license agreement between Virginia and Maryland allows anglers with a license from either state to fish anywhere in the Chesapeake Bay."

Is this true, Maryland Tidal License holders can I fish anywhere in the bay, even in Virginia waters like around the CBBT?

That is my understanding.

That is how I understand the reciprocal lic agreement though I am new to its application outside the tidal Potomac.

That is a good list of Q&As. To shorten the answer, the MD and VA licenses are reciprocal for tidal waters -- in your example, a MD tidal license covers you to fish at the CBBT. However, neither one is valid within the DC waters -- you need to get a separate DC license there. The MD and VA non-tidal licenses are not reciprocal.

You also need to register your MD fishing license in VA first. It is free and you can do it online and print the registration card. This is required due to the new federal saltwater angler registry.

not just the bay, also the coastal waters, and the inshore coastal bays at assateaque, chicoteaque, etc, and the chesapeake rivers up to their fresh-water dividing lines, with exception of potomac where it only covers the lower portion, up to the woodrow wilson bridge i think.

easy to register for federal number online. suggest write that number on your license if you get it.
