  • Anyone fish the reopened flats today?

The Susquehanna Flats reopened today to Striper fishing, did anyone go out today? I know the bite won't be as good as earlier but was just wondering if people are catching fish? Planning a trip out tomorrow morning.

With reports still coming in with fish with sea lice and still full of eggs, I would assume there should still be some good action up there.

        Good luck.

I was out there today and got totally skunked. Hit the water around 7 am and fished until around 2 this afternoon. I trolled all over the place looking for fish with no luck. There wasn't much action going on with the normal pods of boats either from what I saw. It was definately a different story than the closing day of c&r. Didn't see much in the way of fish or bait fish on the fish finder either.???????????? Maybe all the rain messed with the fishing. I would have thought there would still be a few roaming around there. Anyway not to rain on your parade, maybe tommorow will be a better story. I plan on trying again on either friday or saturday. Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What lures were you trolling? With the rain, you'd probably need something with a bit of vibration.

I plan on hitting it up Saturday morning. I was hoping it was still good up there, but if not, I'll chalk it up to another data point. I know there are still fish. It just may be a matter of finding them.

I hit the water today at 3:00 pm. Had a 16" striper by 4:00 pm. They were feeding at the surface all around me. I saw one making baitfish jump out of the water and cast right on top of the action and had a nice one on but my drag was not tight enough and didn't get a good hook set. I had a mid-20 range fish chase my lure to the yak. I only landed two fish for the afternoon.

The fish are there, but the bite is not the same as it was. I tried to time my time on the water just as low tide was turning to high tide. This seems to be my best time for stripers on the flats. They head to the weed lines chasing baitfish.

I was disappointed I didn't land more or get a keeper....

Dread- what were you using? I am hopeful that another day of settling after the rain and this front passing will get something going...if not, a day of kayak fishing might just turn into a day of kayaking.

I'm definitely considering another trip up there on Saturday. Especially if we don't get any more rain and it settles out a few more days. Hoping to get into a few decent stripers.

Caught both on the blue and silver Matzuo jerk bait. Big one followed the green Rapala to the yak.

The flats was not muddy yet. It takes a few days for the Susquehanna watershed runoff from PA an NY to get to the flats.

Alternatives to Tyding Boat Ramp (I believe these two links are the same location). I launched from here yesterday and it is the closest launch site I have found to the flats.
