  • Tactical Anglers Fishing Clips Review

    Hi all,
Recently I was doing some "fishing research" online and came across this video:
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1hR9QaVsto"]Tactical Anglers Clips with Crazy Alberto Knie - YouTube[/ame]

After watching it, I figured why not give it a go, so I picked up a pack from Edge Angling in the 50lb weight class: http://www.edgeangling.com/Tactical-...0-lb-bulk.html I figured if they didn't work, then I would only be out a few dollars.

My initial thought after getting my hands on them were that they are like little paper clips! LOL They are so little compared to a snap swivel... I was a little skeptical. Well until Jbay. I was using these with a Spankin stripers 1 1/2 ounce jig head and gulp and caught 2 nice Fluke. It held up well. I wanted to use a bucktail but left them back at my tent... We went back that evening and they stood up to the task again with a 2 oz. Spankin striper bucktail. Cool!

But both of those times I didn't have to change lures on the water. Saturday, Cliff and I were literally fishing side by side and he KEPT getting hits on his bucktail and gulp combo. So I asked him what color was the jighead. It was solid chartreuse, I was using a darker green sparkle bucktail, but had a chartreuse in the tackle bag. I swap it off in a matter of 30 seconds, I'm not as good as the video yet. LOL I drop down and SAMwich!!!!!!!! I caught a 23 1/4" Fluke just like that. No bend or degradation of the clip.

I'm gonna keep trying them but I'm sold, they say you can use them with plugs, swimbaits, whatever! They are really light and small. The only thing I would recommend is that if you are using a jig or bucktail over a ounce to step up to the 125 lb class clip. It makes getting the lure on much easier.

Yea they work pretty well but they have a bigger footprint than I would like.

    I have used these before:

    QuickSwirls

They are a lot easier to add/remove for smaller eyelets compared to the clips.

      Michael's been using it.

I prefer small coastlock swivels for tiny lures.

Never seen those HokieDJ, do they come with weight class info?

Joe, I wouldn't use these on my small lures. I'm gonna take a look at both options for my smaller stuff.

The come in a few classes I believe. I use the smallest ones and it's rated for 50lbs (I think) and works for me for salt and freshwater. My only complaint about them is that some lures will not work on them because the width of the eyelet must be able to fit into the spiral.

@Surfdog - I saw that when I tied on a Storm chug bug. I got it to work though. Took longer than 30 seconds! But it was perfect for my mirro lures.

@HokieDJ - Ahhh gotcha... I still might check em out though.

I've been using these for a few seasons, I love them. The quick links or tactical anglers are good, but I prefer quick links for the majority of the fishing I do. The wire is in between the small and medium tactical ones. I keep bkds on different heads and just swap lures so I don't rip the plastic. My cup holder is usually full of about 7 different jigs on different size heads. When you're used to it the you can do it in about 5 secs even at night.
                Used to fish more.

I don't usually use a swivel to connect to a jighead. I connect mono using a rapala knot for best action. You guys seem to have confidence in using some type of swivel. I assume you have not had problems with come-offs during fish fights.

I've used the Breakaway spin links for awhile now and like them for some things. I've had regular snaps come unbuckled during fights, especially with bluefish. I haven't had any problems with the spin links. I wish Breakaway or another company made a lighter/smaller version. Maybe something in the 15 or 20lb class.

For jigging, I still like tying directly, but for topwater, crankbaits, or spinnerbaits, the spin links work well.

Another option is to use a surgeons loop and run the lure through the loop. That works well, too, but some lures won't swim straight that way.
