Saltwater Grade Baitcaster with flipping switch?

Do they exist? This weekend while fluking, I was using my el cheapo Abu Black Max and found it very convenient to utilize the flipping switch.

It was great because I didn't have to reel up everytime to re-engage while drifting a dropoff. I also think it would be useful when fishing around a lot of structure to keep my off hand free when dropping down in case I need to push off the structure. I checked Abu and Shimano to no avail, I thought maybe one of you gear gurus might know. I need something to put on my Birthday list! LOL

I may fit your description.... Quantum accurist is what you want. I have one but I have gotten used to just using my middle finger under the rod to re-engage the spool. Here's a trick though, leave it in fee spool with your thumb on the spool, way more control. I should have spent more time fluking!

Ohhhhh I didn't even think of that... I'll have to see how it feels when I get home on my STX. I'm gonna look at the accurist though, I might have to upgrade the Black Max sooner than later.

Since I use a right hand BC, and I hold the rod/reel with my right hand, I can't use my middle finger to re-engage. I just rotate my right hand (w/ reel) 90 degrees and use my left hand to re-engage. Not too efficient, but it works. I too use my thumb to control the spool when the switch is pressed. When I feel a bite on the line, I press down harder on the spool and then set the hook.

I've had an Accurist for a couple seasons now. I like it better than the Revo SX for jigging and flounder fishing. I don't trust myself to leave it in free spool. The cast control on the Accurist sucks because it shortens my cast too much, but I just leave it off and haven't had too many problems with backlashes. Lubed it up once when I got it and after the first season and didn't see any signs of corrosion.

I have the 501 pt, but I like the one John has more because it is lower profile than mine. James was using it this weekend if you saw his jigging rod. It held up to those two big dogfish he got and the blues. Should be no problem for fluke!

what are peoples opinions on the AVET sx 5.3 mc reels?

I purchased one cause I thought it would be a good all around reel. I don't want to spend money on 2 or 3 different reels for different functions. I already have plenty of spinning reels for that.

@dson05- I've got an Avet SX and I love it! It is a great all around reel. I have used it for Tog, Stripers, and trolling. You can use it in a lot of applications. I dont have any real complaints other than its girly clicker. I didn't use it for Fluking because 1) It's on my heavier action Airwave. And 2) The lever drag woukd definitely make me use to hands or thumb the spool for depth changes.... I'm just lazy. LOL
