  • Just got my hobie outback....!

I just go my hobie outback and I would love to hear different rigging options from fellow kayakers in the area. I am also a novice a kayaking and I am reluctant to venture out on my own. Will any of you guys be going out soon? Let me know if it's ok for me to tag along and learn from more experienced kayakers. As far as the rigging goes I have started with turbo fins, upgrade rudder, anchor trolly, visi pole, fish bag, and lowrance mark 4 finder/plotter...

I'd launch from the Eastern Shore side if I were you ......... the Western side was a cesspool the last I saw it .........

When was the last time you were there? Recently I have heard no complaints from other kayakers.

Sunday a week ago ...the bay looked a Mahogany Cesspool brown from the bay and Key bridges ...... and articles in the paper last Sunday and postings on Tidalfish etc also said the same and worse ......... the water has been a Mahogany brown for quite awhile and it has cause a fish kill that makes the inner harbor smell really bad and is causing major infections with people that have small cuts etc ......... some say its from the 17 million gal/day raw sewage for almost a month last March that was dumped in the bay .......

The new water usually comes up the bay on the Eastern Shore side and the old water goes out on the Western side ....... it's the natural flow of the bay .......... that's why I suggest the eastern shore .......

but hey ....... good luck ....... let us know how you did .........

I see your point, it is just the first time recently someone had said something about launching from SPSP. I have not been there so I have to think this one out and see where I should launch.

I launched at Sandy Point on Mon. The water quality was adequate for this time of year.

the hospitals near spsp must be overflowing with bay sickness considering the amount of people i saw swimming at spsp over the weekend.

                this risk we take.

Drove over the bridge and fished gdock side last week. Spsp side was muddy looking and the east side was the cleanest I've seen.

came over the BB on sunday and you can see the differance as you travel east to west. east clear and west muddy, better than the mahogany brown of early last week

just a suggestion guy ......... I wouldn't have noticed it too much except that I go to CBBT more

......... the water down there is green and beautiful and smells like salt ......... get a big smile on my face everytime I cross that bridge ........

Go across the Key and Bay bridges and I get a tear in my eye .......... looks brown and smells like chlorine or worse ........ much worse ......... fish even have sores ..........

Never caught a fish with sores down there ........

Ok, enough of all this doom and gloom. I have an outback and have it rigged out pretty well, but it sounds like you have a really good start. I'm thinking of fishing the bay bridge, severn, or mattawoman creek on saturday. You're definately welcome to tag along if you are interested.

I just came back from Sandy Point tonight, attempting to give my surf rods a test run with the wife. The water quality looked reasonable. I could see 1 to 2 feet down in the water from shore. I did not catch anything, but I had tons of pulls, and some were hard, but I believe that they were crabs. I noticed the commercial crabbers had pots place beyond my thowing range.
