  • Smith Mountain Lake-Vacation

I am headed to SML for 2 weeks during the first 2 weeks in July.
Have many craft going. 3 yaks, 1 Carolina skiff and a rented power boat for playtime that is up there now.

The yaks are great for the reasons all of you already know. The skiff will be fishing platform over at the mountain. (Too far for yaks really but would be duable if other boats never came out. Not gonna happen!)

Power boat for tubing, skiing and cruising up and down the 24k acre lake.

Cant wait. We stay on the south end of the lake close to the dam area. This year on Craddock Ck.

Id like to take a yak side trip to somewhere close by. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

My # 2 son last time we went. Mr Hollywood.

Just a heads up, it's better to post in the main forum.

You will get more replys and info. Also, this sub category is focused on the organization that helps run the Charity Tournament in September.

Good luck on your trip I'm not much help with the area.

I'll be down there the third week I think. My parents have a house there. It's a tough lake to fish because of all the fishing pressure but you can catch all the bluegill and catfish you'd want. I mostly try for stripers and get skunked. If you're looking for a quieter place to kayak, check out Carvins Cove or the James River. Good Luck and welcome to the site!
        Used to fish more.

          SML Fishing

We have fishing nailed great. We go to the mountain and fish the coves and catch the hell out of LM and SM bass trolling and casting rapalas during the morning and evening and have a blast. We use small ugly sticks spooled with 6 oz test. Then when it gets dark go back to the house and catch catfish off the dock. No trouble with fishing for us at SML. I do want to go up in the fall and try targeting the strippers though. I mean stripers.

          Thanks!
