  • Meet & Greet questions

I am in I am hoping to make my first meet and greet this weekend. A few questions if you don't mind.

Where exactly do we meet and what time. I am totally unfamiliar with the area so I need an address to plug into my GPS.

I don't know much about freshwater fishing but would love to try to take a snakehead. What lure(s) should I be taking with me?

I would also like to catch a catfish or two. I know the various species of catfish all take different live baits. What is in that area, blues, channels, whites or something else altogether?

What other species will we be targeting? I typically do not target bass because I like keep one or two for the table and know that that is highly offensive to some bass aficionados.

What time is everything normally over so I know about what time to tell the bride that I'll be home?

Hope to see everyone there on Saturday.

Can't help you with all your questions but.

You can fish for snakeheads pretty much just like you were after bass. Topwater frogs, chatterbaits, soft plastics etc all seem to be getting it done. (Check recent reports in the boatyard)

From my experience there are channels, blues and bullhead at Mattawoman. Soaking cut bait, chicken livers, worms or live minnows in the creck channel near bends should get you some action.

Other species in the creek include yellow and white perch, crappie, sunfish, carp and maybe I am missing a couple.

    Good luck!

For SH like chimo sad they are purty much like bass they will hit almost anything from soft plastics to spinnerbaits the hard part is finding them. Shallow water with lots of cover is where i always catch them at,. And for cats there is a god aful amount in mattawoman creek it shouldent be to hard to pick up a few in a short amount of time.

Blue cats love cut bunker- channels are the ticket with a fish finder bottom rig- and they get big so you need some decent tackle- Slavins Launch is located at the end of Mattingly Avenue - last turn left before entering Indian Head Naval Weapons station off MD route 210 headed south is Mattingly Avenue...some of us will be early and some will be later- should be a bunch of us there Saturday....we all will be glad to show you the ropes- bring some bass tackle and enjoy-

I've never been to one either, but I think you show up and hopefully meet some great people.

I think most people are launching from the ramp at the end of Mattingly Avenue, in Indian Head, MD. You should be able to find that on Google Maps and get there. If I remember correctly, it's about a 30 minute drive south of the Beltway down Route 210.

I'm gonna get there around 7AM and probably leave around Noon, since I've got a dinner I need to attend that evening. As I'm kayaking if I see some guys I'll ask them if they are with Maryland Kayak Fishing and say hi.

I've done well with spinner baits, shallow diving crankbaits, buzzbaits, and rubber worms. I can't catch a fish on a rubber frog for some reason they all keep coming off.

I've never tried for catfish yet. I've been fishing the upper sections that are typically only 4-6 feet deep.
