Thanks to everyone for their suggestions and what they use.
Armed with your suggestions I went looking for a solution. Yesterday, I found a soft sided cooler at Cost Co for $25. Colapses, it came with three soft pods that are stand alone coolers themselves. So, for $25 I figured it was worth the risk. I also picked up one of the grocery "keep your purchase frozen" bags that zip and had a canvas outer shell. $7.
I plan to post pic of what i bought and do a field test of sorts.
