      Vhf

Just a note: Some of the radios will display the purpose of the channel along with the channel number. At least my standard horizon 851 does that display.

This is a old thread, so I don't really expect a response.*

Being a "newby" I have a few questions, (most likely dumb ones.)...

Is there a set Channel (Talk around, info, Chatting, ect...), for Kayaker's?
        An What is it?

I know as everyone for the most part monitors CH-16, but it's never to be used unless there's a legit life or death emergency!*

I found some radios only have 16 channels.

*If there is no set channel, (Official, or non official) I think it may be a good pratice & ideia to "un-officially" put one & a backup in place?*

Most likely one below the 16 to conform with the 1-16 channel model radio's, which some folks already have in place?*

I would like to get some feedback, good or bad about doing this, of course if not already implemented.

        Thanks for posting this info!

So you can use Channel 16 for an initial conversation to get ahold of someone, and then decide what channel you will go to, to have your conversation. Most of the time people use 68 or 72, but you can technically use any of the ones that say non-commercial. I usually put my radio on scan and it flips automatically between all of them.

when moc, sheild and go out we use 68 unless there is a lot of chatter on that frequency then move to 69 or 72
