  • Fishing Taylor Island Area Sat 7/28/2012

Wanting to fish different waters, my interest was spurred by a report of trout around Taylor Island. The plan that is formulating is to meet at the Wawa on rt 50 near Anglers 4:00 am to get there for a 6:00 am launch on Saturday. I do not know the area so I am just looking at marine depth charts. I am leaning at launch from Madison boat ramp at Madison Bay.

    http://www.dnr.maryland.gov/boating/...rchester14.pdf

MD Route 50/301. Slight right to MD Route 50 east. Right at MD Route 16 (Gypsy Hill
Rd) west, continue oto MD Route 16 (Taylors Island Road) west. Right onto Madison
Canning House Road, the access point is on the right.

From Anglers it seems that the public boat launch area 1 hr 20 mins (62 miles). It is just past Cambridge.

If anyone is interested in making the trek then post here.

Lol.... that's good Surf.... if everything works out and we make it to taylor island and it turns out to be good, don't worry a return trip will be warranted.

I used to hunt ducks and geese on that creek. That may be quite a paddle or peddle to get to some decent water. I know in the fall, October/November, fisherman from right near the bridge at Slaughter Creek would be catching rockfish. However, from both of those locations you are quite a ways back in a creek. Might be better to see if there are any launch locations on the bay side of Taylors Island. At one time there was a camp ground that would allow boat launching. Today, I am not sure what location that would put you in the water.

Another bet would be to go to the end of Elliot's Island road, nearer to Tangier Sound.

        Good Luck.

Thanks for the tip Dogfish. I called the Taylor Island Family Campgrounds and they said canoes and kayaks can launch from there for Free! No time limit for access. They said just make sure that you park at the bulkheads, that is it. Launch anytime, comeback anytime. Would you say that that location is better than in the creek?

The campsite is 90 minutes from Anglers according to google.com.

I would say yes. It puts you much closer to productive water. Just keep in mind that open water is exposed and more subject to wind conditions. However, if you keep the creek as the backup in the case of too much wind on the bay, you have the whole thing put together. As I said, I hunted the area. There is supposed to be good fishing.
