  • Staying at Breezy Point Campground for a week starting tomorrow.

And of course I'm bringing my 13" OC Prowler. I've never fished off a yak but I'm anxious to do so. What can I expect to catch this time of year around Breezy Point?

I can go out pretty much anytime if someone wants to hookup send me a PM. I am not equipped for night fishing as I have no lights on the yak.

    Thanks!

    Chris

Rig up a double bottom rig with cut bloodworms for bait and catch some live spot for live lining for Stripers/Blues- use a live bait bucket to keep the spot alive and find some channels off Breezy point to live line spot- this time of year that is pretty effective way to catch keeper stripers- while you wait for a striper to take your spot, continue fishing the double bottom rig- no telling how many croaker/spot/flounder/white perch you would catch waiting-

Spent the last week with the RV and 4 kayaks in the truck! The family and I stayed at Breezy Point Campground near Chesapeake Beach, MD. My main goal this week was to forget about work, drink a few beers and do some fishing!

This was my FIRST fishing trip in a yak and I had a blast. I caught DOZENS of small to med croaker in about 25 ft of water. I also caught a few red drum and a white perch off the yak! There were white caps in the bay so I wasn't brave enough to try to snap photos in the bay. I live lined some spot I caught off the pier with no success. I wasn't too comfortable in the rough bay by myself so I stayed within 3/4 a mile off the coast. Lemme tell you I felt really, REALLY small when a cruise liner came within a few hundred feet of my yak. The swells it put off were fun to say the least.

The next day I took a break to drink some beers and look at the water from the sand. I spotted some birds working close to shore and I told my wife and mother-in-law .... "look there are striper or blue fish under those birds".. After a few min of pondering I went to the RV grabbed my rod with a blue Drone spoon and ran to the edge of the water. First cast - NOTHING!.. 2nd thru 5th cast all produced stripers in the 18-26" range! I had a blast! Once I started reeling them in and showing my wife back on shore people came out of the woodwork with rods! No one hooked up as the fish left as soon as they came! All in all a great week!

I'm heading back in a few weeks and hope to repeat LOL.

Congrats on the nice fish from shore and breaking in your boat. I haven't caught any stripers that size yet this season. You'll get used to handling it in chop, but like Harry Callahan says, "A man's got to know his limitations." Seeing ships up close like that is daunting.
