  • Yak fishing amongst the gators?

I just got back from Cocoa Beach Florida on Sunday.
Tried my hand for the first time at Surf fishing; two whiting on Sat and then a Bonnet Head (small 18") on Sunday. I had no idea that the whiting were good size so I released them back into the surf (12-14"). Damn, I hear they are tasty.
However, like most of you my 1st love is fishing from my yak.

The Banana river and area is a dream area to kayak fish, or so it looks.
I go back August 20-27th; the wife is there for work since July 17th.
It is during this week I plan to fish the inlets and lagoons for my beloved Redfish.
One huge fear, Gators! Locals say they get bottom bumps all the time. Rumor has it that they are more affraid of you then you are of them; except Momma gators while around their young.

I have heard the jokes. I would appreciate the scoop.

Have any of you fished among the gators? Advice? I am new to Yak fishing and the wife wont have an assignment thereor another 5-6 years. So, I am eager to go.

    Thanks,
    Pudgy Prawn

I don't know. This was on the forum not so long ago. People kayak fish in Florida all the time. Watch the video through to the slow motion portion.
