  • polarized Sunglasses

Well had a FREAK accident yesterday, which involved my Costa Del Mars.

Dad hung up new cabinets in the garage, and well i left my glasses on the counter top just under the cabinets, around 10 pm last night the cabinets fell off the wall, destroying and mangling my sunglasses, also causing lots of damage to my mothers car.

Home insurance covers her car, not my glasses. So im out of 250 bucks here, looking for a great pair of fishing glasses, even though my dad is giving me money to get new ones, these were a gift for my xmas just this past year from my girlfriend.

So im not afraid to go and get the same pair again bc i loved them, but opinons if there are any better sunglasses out there im open to all ideas.

Ive heard the brand Kaenon is an up and comer and is taking the fishing world by storm but i like blue lenses..

I had Costas and Maui Jims in the past. I got a new pair of Costa 580s in the plastic lenses and was really surprised at how much more I can see under the water compared to even the Costa 400s. I wouldn't say it's helped me catch fish, but I've enjoyed being able to see and watch fish underwater, see fish hitting my lure, etc. Plus, they're good for driving in the fog and driving rain because they cut down on the glare so much. I'd be reluctant to try another brand. I found mine on sale online. I'll see if I can dig up the website.

Check out the Costa website. They typically have lifetime warranties on their glasses. If you have a problem, you pay a small fee and ship the glasses back to them, then they repair or replace them. I did that last spring and got a completely new pair of glasses.

It may not work, but checking into it should take only a few minutes.

I have a pair of Oakley X metal Juliets with polarized lenses. I've worn them since 2006 and they are pretty much indestructible.

not sure i'm the best person to answer, but i have owned hobie and maui jim and liked them both. but they both sink if you give them 1/2 a chance. i owned both a long time and don't feel too bad about losing them.

so, i recently spoke with a sunglass expert shop-owner on main street in annapolis. he convinced me that maui jim really does have more technology built into their lenses than any other, not just marketing. i was trying on different ones and liked several. he also showed me some that were darker than most that i liked for on-water but i can't remember which brand.

i suggest to check out his shop or someplace that has someone that knows their stuff.

ps - i think guy in annapolis has been doing this 20 years or near to, and really knows ins/outs of sunglasses.

Does anyone make the good quality glasses with a reading lens built in for us old guys that need help tying knots? I have a pair from BPS but they are dollar store quality lenses.

Maui Jim has two "reader" pairs... http://www.mauijim.com/catalogsearch...al=8&q=Readers

As far as non readers go, Costa Del Mar and Maui Jim are the industry leaders.

My Costas are prescription, that's another thing I love about them. Most of their frames are Rx-able.
