Great Time
Wanted to thank everyone for the help with the maiden voyage of my kayak. I caught one 10 in flounder on a gulp minnow early in the morning and nothing after that. Went back with John to Tog for my first time on Sunday morning early and only lost 2 rigs before my pregnant wife started having contractions. Had to give the bait away and get back to Va. The baby still hasn't made its appearance yet, but any day now!
Thanks again...Hopefully I see you guys on the water again.

I don't think anybody won the lure bag again. I think the rule was you had to catch a keeper.

I had the time of my life out there! I haven't camped in over 20 years so I really got a kick out of that! The surf was fun although we ain't catch anything but Dogfish and skates... but it was fun to get some pullage!

Sounds like an awesome trip even if the fish didn't cooperate. Sorry I missed it.

Ditto! I also saw you guys when we came back across the bridge. I had thoughts about it but we wanted to be home for the football games.Originally posted by Redfish12 View PostJim & Wayne- you guys are intense!
It was great seeing everyone and meeting some for the first time. The weather was spectacular! Too bad the fishing was rather slow. Nice pics guys. Thanks for posting them.
Great M&G choice, Sam. I've never been there. Will explore there again. And thanks for the tip to return via route 16. Much better. We got home in just over 2 1/2 hours. Not bad.
OK, so, whose got November?

Jim & Wayne- you guys are intense! I wanted to fish the bridge on the way back today but the gf isn't ready for it and we just came on back. Jim, I saw you on your way back to corner of the southern span on your way back to hemmingways. I thought there was no way that could have been you still out there so late! Sounds like you still had a great day your there and got a few decent fish.
We're heading out tomorrow, not sure where yet. Possibly 301 area but fishing has been slow down there. I had a great time at the m&g but I wish the fishing was as nice as the weather! I'm gonna make a bb trip one evening this week and try to jig some fish. I'll let you all know when I'm heading that way. Thanks again for the snowflake tips!

Got to CHSP just at dark Friday evening. Real fun setting up the new tent in the dark.
Woke up at zero dark thirty Sat morning with a slight headache thanks to Mr. Jack Daniels, and headed to the launch site. Thank goodness TJ new where he was going cuz I sure as heck would have gotten lost. Launced and started fishing my way out along the pier. Took about 15 mins and FISH ON,,,,, yea, well, it was a spot. It actually took me about an hour to catch half a dozen spot. I could do the FISH ON thing for each spot that I caught, which would make the morning outing sound like is was a bonanza. Unfortunately, the fishing was slow, i.e., not happening. But hey, one of those spot was pretty big. So about then I was thinking, what the hell am I doing here when the BB has been fishing great?? Headed back to camp for lunch and had a great time with the gang, although I was dead tired. I thought about heading back home so I could fish the BB in the morning but I was so dang tired, I didn't think I could make the trip home without some sleep. Downed a 7hr energy drink and I was back in shape. It perked me up so much that I hung out with the survivors and we headed down to Indian River Inlet for a evening fish. After trying to squeeeeeze in between the locals on the side of the inlet, a couple folks crossed my line and I gave up. So other than the spot, It was a fishless day,,, up to that point.... and I headed home. Buuuuut, I couldn't pass up fishing Kent Narrows on the way home, so I dropped in at about 9:30pm and proceeded to catch about a dozen 12-16" rock on a "snow flake fly" drifting in the surface. I got home about 11:30.
Sunday morning after a mishap with the alarm, I ended up at the BB (Hemingways) and was in the water by 8am. On my way out to the bridge, just at the end rocks that go out to the bridge from the launch site, there were breaking fish. I tossed a lazer blade out and on the 3rd cast got a heavy 21 incher. That sucker was fat. I really debated on keeping the fish, but I thought, hell, I haven't even begun to live line and was thinking that I was really going to get into some decent fish, so I released it and started fishing for spot,,, kept fishing for spot.......and fished for spot some more. Went back to throwing the lazer blade, and got a 17 inch rock. No spot in anywhere to be found. I trolled a BA for a while and ran into Chimo. I was surprised to see him. I thought he was still at CHSP. We both then tried to catch some spot, you know, strength in numbers. This time, with the two of us fishing for them, we were sure to get some right? Nope. I did end up catching one bay anchovy which I live lined and caught a 15 incher. By that time I was a little bummed that I didn't keep the 21 incher that I caught right off the get go. I was so desperate for spot that I headed back to my car and got the spot that were on ice from the day before. Went back out and trolled with the dead spot and didn't do beans. I trolled my way back in with the lazer blade. If you stay about 50 yards off the rock wall as you head back to the beach, there is a large area that is 6-8' deep. I saw a few bay anchovies in the surface in front of me while I was trolling in. As I passed over, I saw a big cloud of bait on my fish finder and as my lazer blade trolled through the cloud, whammo - 26 incher.
That one I kept. That worked out kind of good, so I trolled back and forth in that 6-8' water out in front of Hemingways. I headed for the beach. When I pulled my yak out, it was 3:30. A guy that was fishing off the rock wall between the beach and Hemingways came over to see my yak and fish, he watched me catch it. He then told me, get this,,,,,that he caught about 50 SPOT!!!! Right there next to Hemingways. I say to myself, "self, now's your chance to go get some real rock", so I give the guy my fish and,,, yea,,, I headed back out, caught a dozen spot in about 15 minutes and then went back out to the bridge for some live lining. Finally.
To shorten this long story, I caught a couple short rock and had a lot of my spot bit in half by blue fish. I fished just about til dark. I should have kept those two keepers!
It was a good weekend. I had a great time meeting everyone at the M&G.Attached Files
