I wonder what they are going to find wrong with the west bound span. It's been closed now for hours while inspectors try to determine what caused the unusual movement. Haven't found an article about how much yet but did read on a message board it was 18 inches. But that could be off. However, for workers to evacuate bridge after they observed it, it had to be a good amount and very unusual as they are always out there. Under those bridges sure doesn't look to good either.

I was kayak fishing last year under it when that earthquake hit.... That bridge started to bounce up and down a foot or so and made alot of noise. I wounder if this may be something settling from that movement.

West bound traffic was backed up to my house at the 301/50 split. East bound traffic was just stopped completely to allow that span to open for two lanes west bound. I would stay away from this area for awhile... Traffic is a mess.

    wow, good info, thanks.

If the bridge falls into the bay that'll make some good structure

I was thinking about last year's earthquake too. But just heard the west bound span has reopened.

Yeah I heard around noon it was opened up, but east bound was backed up 3 miles. I read that the cause was due to wind and that tarp on the bridge. What I don't understand is if that's the case than why had it taken months for this to occur as that tarp has been up for some time. Also I was up late last night and it was very calm out... No breeze/wind in town. I don't think the bridge is any major trouble but I do believe something maybe going on that could shorten the use of it.
