    Rick -

That design is a good one. There are various versions (imitators) -- I don't know who makes the original version. I bought a pair that looks just about the same at Dicks last year. They are made by Rapala http://www.rapala.com/RAPL8/RAPL8,de...s-fishingTools. The current list price is $60, but I don't think I paid more than $25 for my pair. Cabelas has them listed for $40.

I don't think they are the same ......... I've used a bunch of different 1's and they don't seem to work right .......... mainly the pliers seem to twist or the cutters aren't very good. All I can tell you is they are a really nice pair for the price. Excellent quality .......

Good pliers aren't cheap ........ many well over $100.

        Just thought I'd share

The last ones I have the jaws are twisted and are pretty terrible at gripping anything. I have been eying the tsunami ones that look just like the charkbait/pline/just about any other ones for awhile. These look a little better made so I'm getting some.

              Redfish,
I've had the Tsunami pliers for almost a year now. No rust. I keep it clean and oiled. Think I paid about $30 from Amazon. It's hook gripping firmness is just OK, but I would still buy another one.

That Schmid looks exactly like my Tsunami.

Those look really nice indeed. Thanks for sharing. I bet that leather pouch (which I personally would throw into that cardboard box that contains all my other unused pouches) accounts for at least $15 of the total price.

I've got these from Bass Pro: http://www.basspro.com/Offshore-Angl...duct/10209891/... happy with them so far, and they've tasted plenty of salt water and never been washed. The tungsten cutters are replaceable, which is nice, and they cut right through heavy braid.

I wonder how the bass pro model differs from the Schmid pliers, other than the pouch. No indication as to what grade aluminum is used for either.

Well ...... the pouch is $40 according to 1 post ....... these retail for $90. All I can tell ya is that the guys on SOL love these pliers and Larry Schmidt is known for quality stuff ......... and a couple of posts told about experiences of failures with all the different pliers including the Tsumani's Do a search on SOL and see what has beed said about them over the years .......... I didn't find 1 bad report.

I don't have a dog in this hunt ........ just wanted to tell ya about a last chance for a great pair of pliers at a good price before he stops selling them.

They look like really nice fishing pliers. Although, I think I will keep them away from my "nuts."

Pliers look like they're quality, no doubt. A little pricey for me. I recently lost the pair I had for 3 years. I paid less than $30.
Chexone - thanks for the link to Bass Pro, that's my price range. I'll take my chances with the imitator version.
