  • Wow! never saw this coming but did.

Worked for a place for 15 years! And was let go today. Not a surprise we were always top heavy. Just makes no sense. Not bragging stating facts. One of the best employees. Never had a problem. Can do anything the others can do. Save the company hundred easily more than 70K a year. No one else can do my job. Now they will have to call vendors in to do what I did. Last week alone saved company $4k-$5K. on a repairs that no one else can do.. But they keep folks who have been in trouble with the manager and HR. People who can not do the things I did. And probably never will with the quality and safety and attention to detail that I can. They could have gotten rid of two others and I could have picked up the slack easily. But no. I am gone. The hardest part it makes no sense. HR said they followed standard procedure and determined to eliminate my position. Who should I blame? The mismanagement of my Hospital, HR not knowing really what is going on. Inexperience of my Manager and Obama-care. My manager says he did everything he could. I want to believe that. But I don't. I will be okay and I will find another job. I never was afraid of change. More afraid of getting stuck doing the same old thing over and over.

Just had to put something down on the screen. Al of folks on here seem like great fellows and will listen.

    thanks

Sorry, to hear of your problem. I tend to agree with the "chin up" idea. Sounds like you have a trade. You may very well land up better off. Even when you find a job, keep looking for a better job. You may also qualify for additional training. Be optimistic. Again, sorry for you situation.

Im done with 4 years of school, with two Bachelors degrees, and am coming off of an internship that I busted my ass at. They just told me last week that they wont be hiring me full time (A promise they made all summer). Just like you I can already do more than people who have worked here more than 3 years and they still have no intention of keeping someone with quality skills.....After meeting several young guys who work for MD DNR and are less qualified, (and know A LOT less than myself) who have great jobs making good money, I have had nothing but frustration the past few weeks. The work place is tough right now nothing to day about that. I hope you'll be ok money wise for the mean time, and hopefully you can still fish to keep your mind clear. Keep your head up, you will find a better job that pays more.

                Thats all I can think.

Sorry to hear about your job. I hope your next one will be a big improvement. If the worst case scenario occurs and you have to sell your yak, I've got a spare so you can join me where ever I'm fishing.

On the upside, one of my searches on indeed.com seems to bring up a wide variety of medical industry type jobs for some reason. I'm not sure what your expertise is in, but it might be worth setting up a couple automated searches on different job websites. Hopefully, this will just be a temporary set back.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Just like me and others here, we have all had that very thing happen. At least you are in a growth industry. I am also in the medical field and was just a few years ago starting over. I was in my late 40s and thinking no one will hire me and I'm in deep doodoo. I found a better job, better pay and a better work environment. When I retired as a Trooper Medic I never thought I'd be where I am now... Keep an open mind and don't expect to start where you were when you lost your job, There are a TON of Medical jobs out there and you may have to lower your standards to land a job but in the long run will end up happier and better than what you just had. Sounds like they didn't respect you anyway...
Good luck and let me know what happens or if there is anything I can do to help. If you like, PM me your line of expertise and I can keep my eyes open. I visit about every hospital in the city of Baltimore and surrounding areas at least once a week. I can keep my eyes open for you... Two are better than one!!!!

Bottom line...there's never a lack of demand for an intelligent, hard working individual. This is an opportunity if you take it. Many people fear change because they dont want to take that next step because of the risk. Your risk has now been realized and you have the opportunity to take the next step, but you have to figure out what that is. True story, I was speaking with a vendor today and he told me of losing his job the day before the infamous Sept 11th...try finding a job after that. Things worked out just fine for him. He started his own business and lives very well. If you spend one second feeling sorry for yourself, or cheated, that's one second too long. Use that brain of yours to figure this out. Be calm, be surgical, and think for a few days. And for crying out loud, don't sell the kayak. Good luck, and when you get this worked out, tell us your success story. We're here to help if you need any.

Take a few days to gather my thoughts. Already got word out to people I know. And start trying to find a new job. Doesn't even have to be in my career field. I am a country boy so it will be very hard for me to working in a big city but I can do it.

This is what I do for a career- almost for the last 40 years- labor specialist- spelled UNION- see this exact same thing repeated millions of times- capitalist call it the "labor commodity" or "human capital." I call it friends, brothers, relatives lives disrupted in a cost shaving drive to "maximize profits" for the next stockholders' meeting so the boss can get a bigger bonus- "I don't care about you, I care about me."

I see very profitable commercial concerns bought, loaded up with artificial debt, the profits skimmed off, the lawyers declare bankruptcy, the assets are sold off at higher profits, the fat cats walk away with a full ledger of profits after "Harvesting" the company to their next target company to repeat the process over and over and over again- that is how it works today- get used to being considered expendable and forget any loyalty from any public held company for the years of hard, dedicated work you have done or the awards you earned during that tenure- you are just a number on the profit and loss accounting sheet- nothing personal-
