I have everything from 4:1 -7:1... I like the higher gear ratio for burning lures or ltj and the lower stuff for more cranking power or slower presentations like plugs. Are you looking for fishing lures? Or bait?
    Used to fish more.

for throwing out lures i use 7:1 for a faster retrieve. for livelining, bait fishing, tog fishing etc.... i use 6:4 for the cranking power

Two of mine are 7:1, and I have 1 that is 6.4:1. Even the higher ratio baitcasters don't recover line as fast as Shimano spinning reels. I use my baitcasters mostly for jigging for stripers and flounder, but my Revo HS SX doubles as my hollow body frog reel and my catfishing reel. I've been thinking about getting a lower ratio reel to help me slow down for using worms or for fishing for specks. In theory, you can crank a high ratio reel slowly, but I'm too impatient for that.

I must agree with Redfish on the variety. I have high ratio casting reels for working lures. I have low ratio casting reels for cranking power. It all depends on the situation. I have reels from 7.1 to 4.7.
