  • Mid-Atlantic Kayak Bass Fishing Series 2013

So after more and more thinking. I'm gonna get the ball rolling with this one and set up 4 events for 2013!! All the Florida talk on the KBF site has got me pumped.

I plan to keep it simple, fun, affordable, and manageable for myself as I already organize the CBKA tournament and work with all the sponsor donations and prizes.

Rigged Up on KBF has volunteered to help out and we would welcome anyone else that would like to help promote or help in any way.

I plan to create a Facebook page for the series, and add a page to my blog with all the details for the events. I would like for the charity to be the newest HOW chapter here in Maryland, to help them get the ball rolling.

    Overall set up:

    4 events (locations TBD)
$20 entry fee (10% to HOW, 10% towards AOTY, 5% starting the series (shirts, stickers)
    Pay out: 60% 1st, 30% 2nd, 10% 3rd
    Aggregate length of 3 LMB/SMB
Running point total for Angler of the Year (hopefully we can get one sponsor prize and the cash)

I understand that to start it may be small, but I know if we build it then it will grow!! I also understand that not everyone here is interested in something like this and that is completely fine, but for those that are this is for you.

Here is some more info on my blog that I have put together..... http://thehobielife.blogspot.com/p/m...ng-series.html

That sounds cool. I would probably be interested in doing this next year when I have more time to fish. If it's close enough (within the DC area) I can probably convince another 3-4 kayakers to join the tourneys since they are avid bass guys.

Awesome!! yeah gonna try to keep it in that general area. We will decide on 4 locations. Please make suggestions for other places that you think may be suitable.

One for sure will be Mattawoman Creek... other potentials include: Upper Potomac, a couple lake in VA, Susquehanna

Aquia Creek should be a spot. especially when the grass is up.

That is in Virginia, correct? Also, does it have adequate parking and launch location for a number of participants? What time of the year is the grass up?

The most important thing as far as locations we are looking for is a public launch, that would be better if it is free, adequate launch area, enough water for a number of fisherman, and an area to set up check in and awards.

Also, I think keeping it on the Western Shore of MD, DC, and Northern VA area will provide the most success as far as participation in order to get the many Virginia Bass anglers from forums like KBF to come and participate.

Also, we want the fishing to be somewhat different at each event in order to find the most well rounded AOTY (tidal bass event, Potomac Smallies, Lake event, and maybe a repeat style or something else)

Parking may be an issue at Aquia. I've only been there once but it's a really nice spot holding big fish. I launched from a marina in the middle of the creek which costs about $10. I see there's a state park but it's at the mouth and
you probably launch from the beach.

There's some other good spots but they are state parks that you should consider:

Mason Neck State Park - tons of grass, docks, shallow. Gets really thick in the summer though.
Leesylvania State Park - Docks, grass, bridges, rip rap..
