Fall striper hunt

I am have been fishing all my life, but i have no experinces with kayaks. I bought my first kayak last week, went to black hill to practice paddeling and fishin,sitting. I would appreciate some areas i can start as a noobfish kayaking the bay. Private messaging to trade some info. Good luck to all

Congrats and welcome to the addiction! What kind of boat did you get? Where are you located? I'd suggest sticking to the rivers for awhile before venturing out into big water. There are keeper stripers in the rivers right now, so find a public launch and have at it!

Thank you dsiekman for the warm welcome. I got a dinky start out kayak. Equionix the inflatable. Thanks but closet river to moco(montgomery county) is the potomac i dont wanna get caught up in som class three rapids being ill equipped. I would like to ask you some public launch locations to some to easy aflow river. Papstaco? Any stripers and there? Potomac river?washington pike way? Privately messaging is fine as well. Sorry, I was meaning Magothy, Severn, South, etc. I agree, that part of the Potomac would be a little dicey! I have heard there are stripers in the Patapsco, but I've never fished it. You may be somewhat limited with the inflatable. I think most of the public launches around here have a "no inflatable" rule. Not really sure why. I have also heard that some of the reservoirs are holding nice stripers and might be a better place for you to get started. Anybody have any suggestions?

Some of the easiest places to get to with access to tidal water are Jonas Green park, Truxton Park, or the Tucker St launch -- all on the Severn River near Annapolis. See the figure below for approximate locations.

He has an inflatable. If I remember right, Jonas has a "no inflatable" rule. I'm not sure about Truxton or Tucker St., or whether anyone actually enforces the rule.

Lots of places have stripers now. I fish Patapso and you can launch at Ft. Armistead, Harbor Hospital, Ferry Bar Park, Canton Waterfront. It just depends what area you think you can find some fish. I think any of those will produce right now through December. Piney Run has stripers and may be better suited for a beginner. Just keep in mind, there will be wind and waves where you are looking for these fish on the bay so dress accordingly and be prepared for it. You'll need a fish finder to locate structure, depth, etc.

Alright now i have some idea where to launch from, with trolling deal with kayaks, what to use live bait and cut bait with high and low rig? Bucktail and combo gulp with fishfinder rig? What kind of depth? Deep pools? Broad answers are fine and private messaging is fine as well. Good luck for all who are striper hunting!

what is the size of your yak? also be REAL careful with an inflatable ............. Inflatables tend to deflate some as the water cools and the sun remains warm. Ya pump it up on shore and launch and the water cools the air inside and the boat gets as if it deflates .......... used to happen when we went rafting .......

Lure and fishing specifics are going to depend on location, temp, tide, etc. Personally, I've been having luck trolling bass assassins and XRaps near structure. Probably 5-15' deep if I had do guess. Then again, some days they seem to move off the structure into deeper open water and hang near the bottom. Without a fish finder you'll have to go with trial and error. Sorry, I realize that probably isn't very specific and may or may not help for where you will be fishing.

Thanks for that news -- I never knew it. I don't think there are rules relating to boat type at Tucker St. I don't know about Truxton Park. There are several streets in downtown Annapolis that end at the water, and you can launch a small boat there if you can find parking. There is also a small boat launch on Back Creek.
