  • Local lure maker moving to Tennessee

Many MKF members are familiar with the high quality feather spinner jigs made by Woody of Maryland Tackle. I have several dozen of them in my tackle collection. In addition to making great lures, Woody (known as tacklemake on Tidalfish) is one of the most accomplished perch and pickerel anglers in our area.

At last night's monthly SRRKC meeting, Woody told us that he had completed all the arrangements for his move to Tennessee and will be leaving Maryland at the end of next week. He told me that he plans to keep making lures and will sell them via the internet. In the mean time, several local tackle shops have some of his lures in inventory.

He will be missed around here. When I first got into kayak fishing, his reports on pier and surf helped me learn how to catch perch in the Severn and later everywhere else.

Time to stock up on Maryland Tackle lures from your favorite local tackle shop!

Ditto Shadyfisher85! Pier and Surf is where I first encountered Woody. I wonder why he would move to Tennessee? Anyhow, let's wish him the best in his move.

I had the pleasure of surf fishing with woody at SPSP once, a few years back. He mentioned the move way back then. Its finally happening I see. Happy trails to him.

theres a guy in my fishing club that woody belongs to in Pasadena that has retained woodys exact bait and sells them for around 2-3 dollars.

ive used both. both work the exact same. so dont worry baits will still be available around here

my father and i have known woody for over 20 years, and have millions of his lures and i soon will also be getting into making these possibly. selling them for around 2-3 dollars as well

I met Woody at SPSP as well a few years ago surf fishing for Stripers. It was quite possibly the coldest day that I have ever fished. I caught a DNR Tagged fish about 25" long. He came over and we became friends instantly. I told me all about the different tags and also ruined my thought or hopes that I had diamond Jim. He gave me a few of his perch baits before I left and told me that they truly did catch fish. I wish I had them now. Where locally can I get them? I wish him the best in his retirement years in the Hillbilly state. He may need to make some LM Bass Lures!! There are plenty of bass lakes all over that part of the country.

Woody's lures are sold at several local shops. I know that Marty's in Edgewater still has them -- it would be worth checking with Anglers and ALL Tackle too. If you are a Tidalfish member, you can send a pmail to him at his board name tacklemake. He could probably sell some lures to you this week before moving. And he will keep following the fishing boards here in Maryland too.

Woody will be doing plenty of bass fishing. He told me that his house in TN is just two blocks from a large bass lake. Knowing his creativity and ability to make lures that really catch fish, I suspect he will have a steady business supplying the local anglers there with bass-catching lures.

The man is an artist. Someone like Chris Dollar of the Annapolis Capital should do an article on him. I guess the cost of living is a lot less down there and that's an important consideration in retirement, and maybe he has family there, etc. He will be missed.
