Anyone have any experience using LED battery powered camping lanterns? I'm talking about lanterns that would light up an average camp site, table and tent to the degree that one can walk around the camp site, cook and do tackle rigging after sundown. My son wants one for Christmas. During most trips there will be a wife and a 2 year old child... so the light has to be decent. Coleman makes a couple of them ranging form fairly inexpensive up to $60+. I’m mainly interested in quality of light and battery run time.

I'm an old school Coleman 2-mantel, white-gas, lantern guy. Those old gas-fired lanterns would not only light up your camp site but all the surrounding sites too.

    Thanks

we are avid campers and have one that runs on fuel and a second that is battery powered made by Coleman...i dont know the specific model, but it has two small (6"+/-) long tube lights that appear to be flourescent bulbs, that works great. You can turn on one tube or both.
