  • Fishing the week after Christmas?????

Will anybody else be off after Christmas? I have not caught a fish in December from my kayak and really want to keep the streak going.

  • #2
I plan to fish at some point next week -- most likely in the Severn. I too have a streak going -- so far I have caught at least one fish every week during 2012. If I can catch one during the week of Dec 23 and again on Dec 30 or 31, I will have completed the full year and can stop the obsessive behavior.

LMK, I have the need, FOR FISH.

This year, I only had the goal of one fish per month. Next year I may try to emulate your lofty goal.

plan on fishing a few days down here in Southern MD- probably get on Mattawoman and some of the fresh water creeks for bass, snakes and crappie- catch and release stripers by the hot ditch- rules are a PIA with barbless hooks, though

Is it barbless for cats and crappie?

I might be interested in going down to Mattawoman to fish. Depends on the day and the weather. Will you be launching from Slavins?

Yep- Slavins for me this time of year- no sliding in at the 225 bridge- too damn cold to go swimming again! Barbless hooks on the lures only for catch and release on stripers...ultra light tackle really shines for me the next four months- unless I am fishing the big blue cats- then 30# class tackle- with big chunks of menhaden on 8/0 circle hooks on fish finder rigs in deep channels- a 60-80 lb. blue cat will bust some tackle unless you are prepared-

I've only fished for the cats in mattowoman in the spring/summer. How is the bite in the winter compared to summer?

I wanna get out sometime after christmas. Not quite sure where to go. Gonna try to have the elite 4 installed as soon as possible so im not blind fishin. But im down where ever the fish are. Also does anyone wanna go to mattawoman in the spring for snakeheads? Never really targeted em or fished there but i have friends interested to. Id some some experienced guys to come to show me the way of snakehead fishin and hopefully keep a few.

Dec 21 - I went today. I felt like the wind was blowing 20-30mph often in Lake Anna due to the spray and cold air temp. The air temp was 39-40F. No stripers just a LM and 2 WP. Casting was almost impossible today. Trolled two lines. I had two bad line tangles. One was so bad that I respooled completely. It took me 2 hours for 2.5 mile trolling directly against the wind when I came back to the launch site. I saw only one bass boat.
Dec 22 - skip. I assume tomorow will be as bad as today.
Dec 23 - Will fish CBBT for stripers or Elizabeth River for Specks/Redfish
Dec 27 - Will fish CBBT for stripers or Elizabeth River for Specks/Redfish
Dec 29 - The last one for the year. Will fish CBBT for stripers or Elizabeth River for Specks/Redfish

I cooked dinner today. I've been cooking and cleaning everyday to go fishing.
