  • Help with some spots marked off Romancoke

Hey all, I was perusing the NOAA charts and was looking at the depth contours around Romancoke that I have done well at targeting croakers. But I noticed the symbols for a wreck and also for a fish haven. I tried doing some research online with no luck. On my phone app it doesn't say what it is either... and anyone fished around the marked fish haven? Is there some property that makes that area a fish haven? So for all the questions... I'm having cabin fever... LOL

I have no idea but all of those contours look great. I definitely plan on fishing Eastern Bay more next spring!

Hey MM I found this on line I hope this helps. This information seems to be what a fish Haven is in general. The specifics of being able to fish them may be determined by locality.

The area you marked with the larger circle may be the DNR artificial reef at Hollicutt's Noose. Go to http://dnr.maryland.gov/fisheries/fi...uide/guide.pdf then check out the list of reefs on page 44.

You can troll or jig it, but if you drift with bottom rigs, you are quite likely to get snagged (been there., done that).

Scorpio - I found the same thread while googling! LOL I just wanted more info on what it was and if it was fishy before I made the paddle.

John - You hit it on the head!! Thats gotta be it! can't imagine trying to bottom fish there... but I would definitely jig there! I might have to put this on my list of places to fish this Summer!! Thanks for the list too! I am gonna take a look at some of the others as well!

thanks. that's right. I didn't realize they listed these reefs on the DNR site. I'll have to check these out this year.

Yep, one is a wreck and one is a fish reef, otherwise fish haven on charts. One tip on fishing a rubble reef is to fish them with a slip bobber. I used to fish the reef off the West River with a slip bobber. I would go over the reef with the boat to get the depth, then set the bobber. This way you can pass your bait just over the stuff on the bottom. I used to do pretty well at the reef just south of the West River.

We do very good there livelining on the boat. My eagle scout project is building concrete oyster reef balls. They are being deployed in eastern bay to make a whole new reef
